I've been eating at Il Padrino for many years, finding the food to be delicious, the waitstaff to be friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere to be spot-on (this despite the too-well-worn kitchy "The Godfather" decor)...everything you could want in a neighborhood Italian restaurant. In fact, during the Covid lockdowns, I found myself worried for Il Padrino, and was delighted that the place made it through those dark times. All of that said, though, I found myself quite bothered by my latest experience at Il Padrino. This evening not only was I not asked to show my vaccine pass, but even when I turned my phone on to it and placed it prominently on the table it was completely ignored. Adding to that, the waitstaff wore their masks at half-mast (nose out), and seemed to be doing so determinedly, often lowering their masks completely when speaking to each other and to certain customers. Read moreHello everyone! We’re a group of friends from Ukraine🇺🇦and today is our very first day in Paris. We visited this wonderful, incredible place, and you know what we realized? You, the French people, truly know how to connect. You speak with each other eye to eye, and your food culture brings people together and preserves real values — something we deeply miss.

Friends, ladies, waitresses — we’re truly impressed. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the wine tastes as real and vibrant as life itself.
Thank you for welcoming us so warmly and kindly. We had a wonderful time — we felt relaxed, cozy, and truly at...

Let it be known that I am a pizza snob. I love the ones that are true to style -- New York, Chicago, and Naples. California pizza? Please, don't go there. It's not bad, it's just -- not real pizza.
Real pizza has a chewy, wheaty crust that counterpoints steamy hot against crispy char. Melty cheese and rapidly cooked, fresh ingredients. Don't even point out the place unless it has a 900°F oven, preferably domed...
