Cute cafe in a lovely quaint area, just around the corner from our hostel Mije. It was a hot Sunday and two of us were seated at a four seater table. The cafe was busy and this was the only spot left. A brunette waitress came over to serve us and promptly asked us if we were being joined by any more people. Upon realising we spoke very little french and that it would just be the two of us she became very sour. After giving her our order in french, she simply laughed at us and said "no". Upon questioning her as to why we could not choose our options she simply smirked at us and said "I'll give you a few more minutes". It took us two more goes and plenty of "no's" to order our meal, as it turns out she was pushing us to order from the 3 course set menu which was not what we wanted. They also had a standard menu with lots of extra food and drink choices which was what we were provided with upon sitting. We ended up getting the food we wanted, although the waitress refused to acknowledge us for the remainder of our meal. She had a good laugh and chat with the cafe's other guests. We got the feeling she wanted us to leave so the table could be filled with more people who were willing to spend more on the set menu. Sorry but this ruined our experience and we don't...
Read moreCute little place on a quiet pedestrian street just off the river in the Marais. Near fancier places but we chose this place as it seemed more casual and was less expensive than nearby 'Julien' (although I'd do back to try there too).
The menu is a mix of Tunisian style things (adapted for France I think), salads and egg dishes. It all tasted good but don't expect haute cuisine or traditional French dishes. My friend had the brick (a sort of middle-eastern style crispy pancake made from phyllo pastry) filled with spinach and fromage blanc. Filling and flavourful but not the prettiest of dishes. I had the special of the day which happened to be chicken with seasonal mushrooms. We shared a pear and chocolate tart for dessert which was decent but nothing special.
I think the highlight for both of us was the warm apple juice with ginger and honey - delicious and moreish, especially given the depressing turn the weather had taken. They also had a lot of teas and a variety of coffees and other hot drinks on the menu.
I'd go back here if I was in the neighbourhood, especially for a drink, but it's not somewhere I'd...
Read moreWe stopped by this cafe on a busy Saturday in May after walking the Seine and taking a 1 hour river cruise. This cafe on a small pedestrian lane behind Eglise Saint-Gervais church was busy, but we were lucky and immediately got a table outside. Service was quick and the menu was in English also. The waitress picked-up on our weak French and kindly took our order in English. Smoked salmon salad, charcuterie plate and 2 glasses of water hit the spot. A musical trio playing nearby, sunhine and perfect temperatures made for an excellent experience. The only negative was all smokers at tables nearby, but its Paris and...
