Read moreLooking for halal food near Champs-Élysées, we bumped into L'Etoile Marocaine. Initial impression was of a cramped space, smoke filled dining hall and a well laid out Mediterranean Arabic interior. We learnt that they have cooking facility in the basement and perhaps due to improper ventilation the smoke was entering the dining room. This, though carrying the aroma of delicious food, was not really desirable.
Despite repeated requests, it took them ages to take our order. Initially there was only one attendant who was serving as well as taking the orders. Then he was joined by a second guy but it still took around 15 minutes for taking the order and then another 25 minutes in food preparation. We ordered couscous with skewed lamb, lamb tagine with almond/resins and lemon. Food was well cooked, tasty and well served. Both the tagines were very nice and it was one of the better made couscous that I had eaten in quite some time. However, the idea of cooking in the basement with improper ventilation isn't really something that we would support. We usually try to avoid places that have cooking in the basement as it is hard to keep it hygienic. It will cost you € 30 to 40 per person, depending on order. This is not cheap but keeping in mind the location, its not bad. I think they really need to improve the quality of service and the frequent smoke coming out of...
Read moreI recently dined at L’etoile Marocaine with a group of friends and unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. One of the main issues we encountered was the restaurant's pushy service, as they continuously tried to make us order more food than we could possibly consume. The waiter kept suggesting additional dishes and pressuring us to order more, even after we had clearly stated our preferences and limitations. While we appreciate recommendations, it felt like they were more interested in making a profit rather than ensuring a pleasant dining experience for us. Another frustrating aspect of our visit was the addition of extra plates to our bill that we hadn't requested nor consumed. It seemed as though the manager took it upon themselves to add items to our order without our knowledge or consent. When we pointed out the mistake, the staff was less than helpful and unnecessarily argumentative. Furthermore, we were quite...
