Me and my parents were there at September 2016. First of all, place is nice and quiet, it's hidden from busy streets and you can observe local life instead of busy hustling tourists. Second, food was delicious. Very French, very tasty and fresh. Not overpriced at all. It is not a tourist trap. Actually, they are quite rude to tourists as they prefer locals. We sat outside (for some reason they never sit you inside, no one was inside and even two years ago when I was in Paris with my husband inside was empty too and outside was full). 3. Service is weird. They are not friendly. If you speak English, they won't talk to you, they genuinely don't know it. None of places on this street speaks English. I do know some French, which made waitress very happy, I even used translator to find forgotten words and she patiently waited and corrected my pronunciation. The weird part is when she dissapeared . Another waited finished to serve us without saying anything, although I talked to him at French. He did all I asked but didn't talk at all. I saw also as in the middle of a day their cook left and they told all guests that they serve drinks only. I must say that there were two local companies sitting, chatting and enjoying themselves. The got the same service and were happy. It was obvious that they were regulars there. As for time... It took A LOT of time to order, get food and get check. Nobody is in a hurry anywhere... Actually we weren't either so we quite enjoyed it there. The bottom line, if you want quite, relaxed good cafe with normal prices and good food but don't expect waiter to be your best friend or to jump at every occasion in front of you - you'll enjoy it. If you're in a hurry and don't have and hour-two for a meal, don't go there. And yes, better prepare some French phrases. Hey, You know what Google translate...
Read moreDuring my numerous trips I have never encountered such a rude employee any any establishment. Upon immediately sitting down the waiter began barking orders and informing us he couldn’t make hot beverages, yet other patrons had hot beverages at their table. He was very concerned 2 people in our party hadn’t arrived as we were taking up a table for 4. This would be a legitimate concern if there were customers waiting, or if the establishment didn’t have 80% availability on the inside of the restaurant and it was spitting rain, making exterior seating, where we were located, less desirable. While we waited to place a drink order with this waiter, we kept trying to get his attention, but to no avail. Finally he came back and told us we had to leave and couldn’t sit here any longer because of “other customers” who simply did not exist. We proceeded to wait across the street as we informed our other two friends to meet us at this restaurant and they arrived 2 mins later. We then took another 5 minutes to decide on another location to eat, our seats that needed to be vacated for “other customers” remained empty. I’m not sure if this was a case of prejudice, but in any event, I wouldn’t suggest anyone enter this type of at atmosphere under any...
Read moreAfter first travelling to London, when my sister and I arrived to Paris and spent our first few days here, we were both so pleasantly surprised to see how nice Parisians are. This was completely blown out of the water when we TRIED to dine at La Rose de France. We stood on the terrace, viewed the menu, and decided to have drinks and dinner. When we walked inside, there was only a group of people sitting at a table. We looked around for a host or to choose our own table... One girl said hello, but she was cut off by a woman jumping up and screaming at us to get out because we can't use the bathroom. She didn't even ask us if we were looking for a bathroom, she just assumed and decided to be as nasty as possible. I would think a nice, French restaurant would understand hospitality, but not this place. Maybe she judged us for our skin color, for being American, or our clothes? Unknown but no restaurant can be decent when it treats people like this. The only thing I can think is that the positive reviews on here are fake. This restaurants treatment of us felt like a slap in the face so we told them to forget it and went to a restaurant down the street who were as nice as can be. Avoid La Rose de France...
