We had a disappointing experience at a restaurant. My girlfriend and I arrived and requested a table for two for a small breakfast. We were offered a table and waited for 15 minutes for the waiter to approach us. When the waiter finally came, he took my girlfriend's order but when I requested a crepe, the waiter agreed and a staff member from the bar jumped over and informed me that it was past 12 and they couldn't serve it. Despite the fact that it was only 12:15 pm and we had a menu in our hands that showed no time restrictions on the items we could order, I accepted and decided to choose something else. After waiting another 15 minutes, the staff member that interrupted before came to take our order. When we repeated our order (I had changed mine to a cheesecake), he apologized and said that they couldn't offer us the table for those items as it was against the rules and they requested a full lunch otherwise we were only allowed to sit outside to order those items.
Feeling frustrated by those made up restrictions, we decided to keep our composure and went to another nearby restaurant where we were taken care of promptly and without any issues. Taking into consideration the volume of the restaurants in the area I will definitely suggest you guys to avoid this particular one as it seems their rules is towards money no...
Read moreNever have i ever encountered such rude restaurant. When I asked the owner asked do you want to eat something and obviously he didn't tell me I need to eat lunch. I asked him if they have some pastries and he showed me so I told him I just want to order this and then the waitress came to take order so we wanted to order 2 hot chocolates and she said you have to eat lunch. So we didn't want to eat lunch there as we had a flight so I told her I will just pay for the pastries and go. We paid for the pain au chocolat and asked for the takeaway. She just grabbed the pain au chocolat with a tissue and tried to give it to me. I asked her can I just get a paper pack with it as we had a lot of bag with us and she said so rudely that we don't have bags for these! With making a silly face. Then I told her you know what throw this then. Then she was like oh actually we have a bag. Obviously I lost interest in their food so I didn't take that. This was my worst experience so far in total 3 trips in paris. I know they are not high end cafe so I didn't expect the employees to be smart or well mannered. But they don't even...
Read moreVery near the Trocodero. Can get packed, so make reservations if you're in a big group. There's always among the waitstaff who speaks English. I think they're used to Americans, meaning they'll banter with you if you're fighting over who gets to pay the bill, and they smile more than in most restaurants.
The food is wonderful. I would keep going back for that croque monsieur. First bite of that ham enveloped in gooey cheese is fantastic. The bread shares a starring role: it's soft but with a perfectly crunchy crust, and the bread is thin enough so it's not too heavy. The omelettes are perfect: fluffy and full of whatever you ordered. I got the mixte ham and cheese. It comes with a free Caesar salad that's very mustard-forward, so it was bracing but wakes you up in a good way.
Ordered the caramel crepe and tiramisu too.
They check up on you if you need more water, and are quick with "l'addition" (the bill). They're gracious when you tip, but don't look for it.
Our son kept comparing croque monsieurs, and he went...
