Excellent service from the moment I walked in. Stephane was great, fluent English, although I asked for a standard brand lager he brought a tester of the Belgian red beer straight to the table, this guy knows his beers and his clientele, forget the standard lager, it's Belgian Red all the way. Next it was food, Stephane again, he brought a blackboard displaying the menu and explained every meal in mouth watering detail, I decided on the Kansas (USA) steak 'Bavette d'aloyou Black Angus Fries, Salad €24, requested rare, without sauce........what was delivered to the table was presented plainly, but presentation sucks if the food isn't great.....this was under stated...the knife slid through the steak like a hot knife through butter, no tearing like my life depended on it, although rare the steak it wasn't swimming in blood liquid, the fries were simple, the salad was simple, this was just amazing tasting steak, every mouthful was tender, flavoursome and cooked to perfection, no grease, no blood liquid just amazing steak bred to perfection and honoured in the same way....perfection. Dessert was a panacotta cheesecake, again simple on presentation but again so underestimated. It was light and fluffy, not too rich, all the flavours were in rich in the own right and complimented each other, simply put it was exactly what I needed after a long day of work and travelling. The Publisher Pub is an underestimated den of great food, beer and excellent service. Thank you Stephan for your attention to detail. Certainly check this place out for a beer, but treat yourself and stay for food, you...
Read moreThe night we visited there was limited staff but they were superb. The owner/manager spoke perfect English and was very attentive despite it being a very busy time. The other waiter had minimal English but he was happy to humour my very basic grasp of French. The food was the best we had so far on our France trip - the only slight feedback is that the Thai beef is served blue (possibly cured in lemon juice?) but this wasn’t clear to us when ordering. However the waiter happily took it back to be cooked without any trouble. The rice with the Thai Beef was the best rice I’ve ever tasted. The other dishes were magnificent and not overly expensive. The coffee machine was out of order when we visited, so they compensated for that by offering a finer wine for the price of the lower priced wine we had been drinking -...
Read moreWe came in at approx 22 hrs only for a night cap on our way to the hotel. We wanted two draft amber beer that the server recommended. However he had to change the barrel so we did not get the requested beer. We went for two other types. When sitting in the bar I observed that others paid their bills and heard the waiter saying repeatedly "it is up to you". He was asking for tip! When we paid out two beers he did the same. It was 19 Euro (!) for two beers and he asked for tip 😱 at first sight it looked like a nice place to eat. However, feeling the pressure of giving tip was not nice at all. So I would not go back there to eat although I thought about it for a second. In Paris it is not OK to ask for tip like that at all! It was a good IPA...
