This was an okay experience. We found this restaurant on a whim after having been out and about all day long. We were hungry (and wet - having been caught in the rain). The environment is inviting, the inside is spacious (fit for a larger group), and we were greeted by courteous and friendly staff. The service was fast and one has the option to choose the level of spiciness. The food arrived in about 10 minutes. The chicken was way too spicy (although we had requested moderate spices). Similarly, the lamb was over spicy (even though we had ordered the light level of spiciness). The fried rice was delicious and the vegetable noodles were okay, however too oily. However, the exaggerated spiciness and the high level of fat in each dish prevented me from detecting and enjoying any layers of taste. The langues de canard was a first for me. I tried one and I knew right off the bat that it wasn’t for me - the small bone threw me off completely. This being said, the service was friendly and the food arrived warm and in...
Read moreThe food is delicious, I would say it is one of the best hotpot in Paris, but the reservation system is a disaster. When you reserve for a table, they don’t ask if you want to eat on the ground floor (Chinese dishes) or on the first floor for hotpot. As most of the customer go for the hotpot, basically it is useless to reserve a table , you would still need to wait more or less the same time as the walk in customer. Even though we had a reservation, the staff didn’t even ask for our name of the reservation and they would still put us after the walk in customer, after 8pm there are even customers standing on the stairs to wait for a table…Also the overall service level is below average, the staff doesn’t refill the soup on time, not much follow up on the customer after we...
Read moreAuthentic and rewarding hotpot experience in the heart of Paris! I had the Maxi Hotpot at Shi Yuan near Opéra and it was absolutely amazing. The ingredients were fresh, the portions were generous, and the broth was full of flavor — comforting yet complex. But what truly elevated the experience was the DIY sauce bar: sesame paste, garlic, coriander, chili oil, soy sauce… you can mix and match to create your own perfect combo. It felt so enriching to tailor everything to my taste!
The atmosphere is lively but cozy, ideal for group dinners or even a solo treat. The staff was helpful and efficient, and everything felt well thought-out. For anyone looking for an authentic, hands-on, and truly satisfying meal, Shi Yuan is a must-try. I’ll definitely be coming back — this...
