Just a short walk from Strasbourg’s Central Station, "The Ethiopian Café" may look unassuming from the outside, but step in and you’ll be welcomed with open arms. The host is especially helpful in guiding first-timers through the menu.
The food arrives on a large, colourful sharing platter. As omnivores, we enjoyed chicken pieces, on the bone, in a rich tomato sauce with a gentle chilli kick, and tender beef morsels infused with Ethiopian aromatics. There were also plenty of vegetarian options, all accompanied by a variety of vegetable and lentil sides, plus stacks of injera (soft, bubbly pancake-like flatbreads) perfect for scooping it all up.
Afterwards, we were invited to share in the traditional coffee ceremony: fragrant beans roasted and brewed before us in a jebena pot. (Tip: accept the offer of ginger with your coffee as it’s a wonderful twist.) The whole experience encouraged conversation with neighbouring tables and added to the warm, communal atmosphere, where gental incense burns as a blessing.

Read moreI recently dined at Ethiopian Café bistro in Strasbourg, and it was a fantastic experience! The cozy, welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a delightful Tibes and Kitfo that I had. The traditional injera was fresh and baked to perfection. The meat was tender for the Tibes. The Kitfo was perfectly spiced and was rich in authentic flavors. The communal dining style added to my experience, making it both warm and memorable to me and my friend. Whether you’re new to Habesha cuisine or a long-time fan, this place is a must-visit for its vibrant dishes and genuine hospitality, not to mention the fair pricing and its excellent location at a walking distance from Strasbourg central...
Read moreGotta admit was let down by the food. I've tried this cuisine at multiple places in Germany and this was the first in France & Strasbourg. The 3 stars are just for the service as the gentleman running the place was kind enough to accomodate us at 3:00pm Vegetarian option served was just Shiro and Faffel (rolled Injera dipped in sauce) and hence was such a let down of an experience for two others who I brought along to introduce this cuisine. Perhaps it's my bad that I said yes to "Fafffel" on the plate - nonetheless, that was just a bit too much of Injera and...
