Stayed at the Arok Hotel with friends to explore Strasbourg and the Alsace region. Chose the hotel mainly for its location, just across the train station where we arrived by TGV from Paris. It was a quick walk over in the mornings to catch trains for day trips to Colmar and nearby Alsatian towns. It was also a walkable distance to main tourist places like the Strasbourg Cathedral and Petite France areas. The Gare Centrale tram stop is also connected to the train station so we could also catch trams for shorter walks to these tourist areas. ||The hotel is not that large and seems recently renovated. Entering the lobby you find unique, quirky, contemporary furnishings and motifs centered around Miss Arok … get used to seeing her since her pictures are on the walls of every hallway and in your room! My friends’ standard rooms were small, but I ended up with a standard double at the end of the floor, which had a long hallway that wasn’t useful, but did make the room feel more spacious. This interesting floor plan then allowed a more open bathroom with large frosted glass window. The room was comfortable and clean with large flatscreen TV and basic furnishings, all in good condition. There was no closet but open shelves and a clothes rack with a cabinet and safe. The bedroom was very quiet since the long hallway pushed it farther away from other guest rooms, and it looked out above an inner courtyard - no view but quiet.||We didn’t take breakfast but did see the spread in the mornings which seemed like a good selection of items. Snacks are available throughout the day. We were impressed with the staff who courteously greeted us daily, answered all our questions, and gave great recommendations for dining plus helped to make reservations. The front desk staff also happily tended to us at the bar. It was an enjoyable visit to Strasbourg and the world...
Read moreThis is a fantastic hotel from every aspect. Situated opposite the lovely train station and gardens, the hotel itself is well decorated, seems freshly done up. ||We fell in love with it the moment we walked in. The lovely young man who greeted us was so gentle and kind, and the happy, fresh decor captivated us instantly. We were early so he took our luggage into keeping and offered us the use of the fantastic beverages machine and water, and snacks, and of course the bathroom. Then we go up in the quaint lift and find such a huge, clean room wonderfully day light lit, with a wonderful balcony and window overlooking the gardens and train station.||The beverages and snacks are available free of charge all the time which is a real boon. ||We spent four nights in the harmony of the surroundings. It was so quiet and the bed and pillows were smashing.||Breakfast was wonderful, varied, and the space was so lovely. Delicious beverages from that great machine were super too. We rested there in the evenings on a break from our jaunts.||The location is absolutely superb. We walked practically every where. If you need transport (we did only twice - once to get to our meeting place for our medieval villages tour via Get your guide (fabulous) and the other back from the European Parliament to which we actually walked), there are buses right out the railway station across the street. ||In the interest of full disclosure, there are no luggage racks in the room and no closet, just open shelves, which is a bit of a pity. Toilette soap is a combo of shampoo and shower, no shower cap. One could very probably request all or any of this from the receptionists. It didn't bother us.||This hotel is a home away from home. I thought the price too was very reasonable. Go...
Read moreFirstly, the location of this hotel is fabulous! The moment I got out of the train station, I could see the hotel right there! Upon arrival, check in was easy and quick. The hotel lobby was nicely decorated for Christmas and had different activities available, for eg, table soccer, TV, armchairs etc. which is very welcoming and conducive. Heading to the room, the artwork around the hotel, the lift and even the room are very interesting, giving me a feel of support for feminism. Entering the room, I shifted the furniture a little just to be able to accommodate my suitcase and make it practical for my needs. The layout in the room is unique, with the vanity located outside the bathroom, I managed to make it work using some extra table space on the desk in the room. In the bathroom, there is not enough space for toiletries and I used the space on the toilet to put them. The shower curtain has probably a few inches off the ground and hence water would splash out from the bottom. I think the bathroom will benefit from a couple of door hooks to hang the towel. Despite the tight space, the room is cosy. There is a chair and a stool in the room. Personally, I think the stool is not required as I had to move it out of the way. The clothes hanger area is practical, making good use of the limited space. The window in the room can be opened with black out curtains. The bed was comfortable and clean. The room was good for one person but if there were two, it would be a really tight space and perhaps one luggage can only be opened at any one time. The hotel had free coffee from the coffee machine available from the restaurant which is behind the reception. This is a great hotel with an excellent location! The boulangerie beside the hotel is great as...
