The whole experience at this restaurant was horrible.

First when I tried to ask what the dish of the day was, the waiter told me it was for lunch only, which was nowhere to be seen on the menu. At that point I didn't know that was just a start of disappointments to follow.

I ordered "our suggestion" on the menu, rib steak, and asked for medium rare. The steak came up very rare, red inside instead of pink. The meat was incredibly tough and almost impossible to swallow. I asked the waiter to cook it a bit more, hoping it can be rescued with slightly longer cooking time. But no, the steak was still very tough after being recooked.

I was starving at that point so decided to force some food down anyway. And in the middle of my fight with the steak, the waiter asked me to move table because they need to make space for a larger group. I found that very rude and inappropriate, but the waiter apologized, so I decided to be nice and comply - although my sympathy and patience was wearing out because of the bad food.

After being moved to a corner table next to a big group of drunk guys, some random guy decided to jump over to my table and harass me. I had to pretend that I don't understand French or English to get out of the situation. I was totally ignored when I tried to get the waiter's attention.

At that point I've had enough and asked for the bill. I had to ask 2 different waiters and waited almost 30 minutes before someone finally brought me the bill, and asked me how the food was. I told him it was terrible and I didn't like it. The waiter shrugged it off. Why bother asking??

When I looked at the bill, I noticed it had the wrong amount. Of course it did... This restaurant has ceased to surprise me.

I had to wait another 15 minutes before I could grab another waiter to tell him the price was wrong. That waiter explained that the price on the menu was outdated, but eventually charged me the price on the menu, and acted like he was doing me a huge favor. How funny... It's not my fault that they don't update their own menu!

On a positive note, the salad and the roasted vegetables on the side were delicious. So I guess this restaurant is not all horrific, given it has had so many good reviews from others. However since there are plenty of highly rated restaurants in the center of Strasbourg, I'd really suggest...

An absolutely excruciating dining experience. We had a reservation for Christmas eve dinner which required half the payment in advance of the meal. Upon arriving we were seated and given a flute of champagne and then nothing...for 90 minutes. We watched as people filled into the restaurant and eventually the place was packed. Of course everyone else also had to have reservations (this was a set menu at 85 euros per person). Rather than do the logical thing and serve people as they came they waited until the place was full and made some sort of attempt to serve everyone at once. The food arrived in weird intervals and was not evenly paced. The timing went something like this

Seated, served champagne 30 minutes later served first course 90 minutes later served entree approximately an hour later served dessert about 30 minutes later

The service was just horrible and I watched closely as other diners became frustrated. One couple looked to be on the verge of leaving even. We were some of the first to arrive and saw as tables that came after us, with far more people, were served first. All this could possibly be forgiven if the food was good but for fine dining and at the price point I was completely unimpressed. The Bûche De Noël for dessert was dry and missing its characteristic swirl of the gateau. Just an overall excruciating experience for everyone involved. Staff kept trying to appease people but rather than offer something like a glass of wine on the house they just kept saying "five more minutes your food will arrive" (which is never did). Having been to other fine dining establishments I know this is not the norm. They knew that the restaurant would be full because it required reservations so they should have hired more staff both for on the floor and in the kitchens.

I cannot recommend...

One of the best dining experiences ever. We ordered the famous traditional flambé tart, cordon bleu and the pork knuckle Schockeloch meal with a Monaco (beer with syrup and lemonade).

The tart was basically a flatbread with cheese, ham and onions and it was so delicious. The pork knuckle was a little gamey but was so tender, it just fell apart when you put a fork in it. The chicken in the cordon bleu was moist and the cheese inside was flavorful. Portion sizes are huge and we weren't able to finish the spaetzle which accompanied the cordon bleu. We struggled to finish the kougel dessert... Also delicious with some interesting berries.

You can tell this place is a staple since a few regulars were greeted by the wait staff during our meal. Lightning speed wi-fi. Only drawback is there is no outdoor seating. Already wondering if we should go back during our short...

Stopped in for lunch at Schnockeloch and had a lovely experience. We were seated at a nice table facing the main dining room, which had a warm and welcoming vibe. Service was friendly and accommodating—they were happy to speak English, which made things easy. The food overall was delicious. The Alsatian salad with grilled sausage was a standout—hearty, flavorful, and well-balanced. The tarte flambée was excellent as well: crispy, savory, and perfectly done. One dish I wouldn’t order again is the baeckeoffe. This was my second time trying it (at different places), and once again the meat was tough, dry, and lacked flavor. Just not my thing, but others might feel differently. All in all, a great place to sample Alsatian classics in a comfortable setting. Would definitely return.

I visited this Alsacian restaurant with my partner to try some local cuisine. - Good atmosphere upstairs. We asked to change tables due to crowded situation downstairs, and they kindly offered us a spot upstairs, which made the experience more enjoyable. - The waiting time is not that great and while waiting we didn’t get anything to eat « bread or something » - The service was somewhat slow; we had to wait longer than expected to be served. - The food was good but not exceptional. For example, the meat lacked seasoning, but the portions were generous. I would consider giving it a second try if we pass through Strasbourg again, but I believe they should offer customers the option to sit upstairs from the start, rather than leaving them in the crowded downstairs area.
