I can not deny that I am a fan of the Haeberlin family since 35years+. But I will do my utmost to write an honest and objective review. The building is worthy of its breathtaking country and its unique culture and savoir vivre, and once great city of Strassbourg, which is under threat of globalisation I felt as is our European authenticity. But for now still beautiful. As for the interior, especially upstairs, warm but modern, cosy but stylish with a just impressive wooden ceiling etc. Service top notch. The menu is a smart list of gourmet's favourites with internatinoal ever greens but also luckily platters that define Alsca's wonderful gastronomy, personalized by master chef Marc Haeberlin. Just can taste and feel his magic hand in everhyting. From the terrine au quatre viandes (his dad's Monsieur Paul, favourite before) to the Vol au vent made with river inhabitants only;: frog, pike perch and char. Reminds me of his family's legendary dish at Auberge de l'Illl, la matelote. It is just great and the homemade puff pastry makes it perfect. Desert from the same level; chesnut and cassis inspired, not too sweet. Regarding the wine list; a compact selection which prooves ultimate knowledge of French produce and rare vinosity, with Alsacian bottles rightly in the leading role. For the price, in my opinion, this is the place to be and enjoy. Hope to be back over and over. Thanks to one of my all time favourite food heroes and his family and their tradition. Read moreAverage food, great dessert and very slow services. The service was very slow - we waited 20min to order drinks and then another 15min to get them. Overall, well over 2 hours for the 2 courses dinner (main + dessert). Drinks was ok but pricy (15 euros for the cocktail - same price as the US) I had the steak tartare - was disappointed, too blend. Other guest had the saint jaques that was ok and the risotto that was good. We also had 2 kids meal. Kids meals were original vs usual - we had the fish and chips and the escalope viennoise. Fish and chips was very good, with great fries. However, i asked for lemon which should have come with the dish in my mind but waited over 10min to get it. Desserts were great - congrats to pastry chef. I had the chocolate and peanut that was fantastic. I asked to have an additional scoop of ice cream. The scoop of ice cream i asked for replaced the one from the dish but i was still charged for an extra scoop. Other guest had the cafe and tea gourmand. The desserts were good but the coffee and tea that should come with the dessert arrived over 10min after the desserts. Wine list was good - good selection. Had the Pinot Noir F from Blank that i would recommend. Relatively expensive but not outrageous. Overall - it was my fourth time at Brasserie des Haras but i won’t come back. Beautiful space, but service too slow...
Read moreThe Bottomline: beautiful space, excellent service, superb food and wine list. We went here after visiting the Christmas Market area and it's easily one of the best restaurants in Strasbourg.
Ambiance: 5/5 - what a beautiful space! It's a bit of a walk from the centre of Strasbourg but once you're in the vicinity you won't regret coming here. The place itself is connect to a hotel so make sure you go to the restaurant part of the place.
Food: 5/5 - see below.
Starter: we ordered the tarte flambee and it was good but I think next time we'll order something else since the taste is similar to what's around the area.
Main: We ordered the Herdshire Beef Steak -regular and rosinni style as my partner and I both love steak. Both were excellent but I preferred the Rossini style, the foie gras was melt-in-your-mouth and the steak was cooked to our liking.
Cocktails - my partner ordered a beer and I ordered a Kir Royal which I found too sweet. I switched to their wine recommendation and it was immediately better.
We skipped out the dessert unfortunately, hopefully we'll have more...
