I’ve been there twice: on the first time we came here for breakfast and it was a complete mess because we were served dessert (waffles with ice-cream) first, only then, after 20 minutes - omelette (the main dish, it was just ok), while ice-cream on the waffle was melting. The waffle itself was stiff as if not fresh, not tasty. They also added sugar to the coffee without asking, so it ruined a capuccino. Today I came here again. Chicken a’la creme was good, but then I had two desserts with tea (they have a large variety of good tea, you could give them that): a crepe with chocolate and berries and a dessert which was called “berry cheesecake” which has nothing to do with the proper cheesecake (some fluffy dough underneath with some light stuffing in the middle which tasted like a cream from some cheap cake and sweet jam on top). As to the crepe it was good, but chocolate stuffing - way too sweet and didn’t taste good, so I only get to eating the crepe with berries by scrubbing chocolate out of it.
As you can see, I gave this place the second chance, but despite the fact that food is relatively cheap most probably your endeavor is gonna end up with disappointment.
Small note: Nari Nari cafe down the street has almost the same menu and there they redirected me to this cafe as it has...
Read moreOrdered mushroom soup and chicken cordon bleu. Plenty of croutons with the soup, which was nice and thick, but, alas, the amount is soup was very paltry (ungenerous): just half the small tureen (soup bowl) it was served in; illustrative of "shrinkflation" (rather than increasing the price of soup above 14 lari the quantity is reduced). Cordon bleu was good served with rice with, however, an undue surfeit of cheesy sauce to disguise the modest portion size yet for 21 lari, it was standard. More critically, I found both the soup and the cordon bleu to be over salted; I had not found that to be the case with the same dishes ordered at the nearby Tea House in the Park. Very crowded, popular venue at around 7-8pm on a weekday. I marvel how the wait-staff managed with so many customers. The wait for the change for the check was around 15-20 minutes; too long but I can partly understand with customers abounding: every table occupied and practically...
Read moreThe "Georgian Board" at the top of the Mains menu was satisfying to my appetite and delicious. I wasn't sure what the elarji croquettes were going to be, but they're what they say they are: a mix of cheese and corn meal (what makes up a typical bowl of elarjI) lightly breaded and fried. The outside was crisp, the inside tasty with the perfect mouth feel.
The walnut sauce went nicely with everything on the plate, and the chicken BBQ (what they usually just call msvade here) was just what you'd expect and a good portion of protein to get you through an active day visiting Tbilisi.
The spacious interior is belied by the barely noticeable entrance up a curved stairway, so trust Google Maps when it says you're there. On the sidewalk signs place to get your attention, I didn't see "Tea House on Kostava Street," but once you're in the menu confirms it. You'll be greeted by a helpful server and...
