We tried to eat in the courtyard (outside) after visiting an exhibit at Martin Gropius Bau. There were about 5 wait staff for about 20 or so tables, but they were completely disorganized. The woman who took our orders had difficulties understanding German. We ordered a wine, a juice, and two snacks which she duly entered into her iPad. Half an hour later, we still had been served nothing. Our waiter mostly stood by the bar and looked at her iPad while other waiters walked around aimlessly or tried to seat people. We could see the drinks waiting to be picked up and when we asked our waiter about them we were told "it's so busy now" and "just two more minutes". After half an hour of waiting for our drinks and food, we cancelled our order. One of the other waiters, who seemed to be in charge, exclaimed that she couldn't understand why it was taking so long, and mused, "maybe because it's busy?" Long story short, we can't recommend this venue. It's a shame, as the museum used to have a great cafe. The food at this new place looked great but you can get good food elsewhere in this city.
Addendum after the owner posted a response to my review: If you look at the one-star reviews - and there are quite a few - most people complain about poor service and the owner's response is typically to make an excuse for what went wrong. A business owner should use these reviews to improve things that are flagged as going wrong. I expect the owner to be proactive and work with their employees to increase efficiency. We saw employees wandering around aimlessly while people were waiting to order or have their meals brought out.We saw waiters who had trouble understanding the customers and seemed to have problems using the restaurant's iPad technology. I remember the cafe at the Martin Gropius Bau as a place you could have a coffee or nice meal. Now it's devolved into a frustrating experience where customers go hungry and thirsty while the restaurant's front-of-house staff tries to figure out the most basic aspects of...
Read moreGot Bobkes from Beba. From the only restaurant inside a museum - I would expect to be able to get a cup of coffee or a cold beverage, in the reasonable one and a half hours before the museum's closing time. This does not seem to impress them: hence the low rating, for being unavailable for the most basic function it is supposed to serve, being a museum's cafeteria. ** Response to Beba's question: I couldn't get a break at the only place in the museum that could serve coffee or any other refreshments, today at 17:30. A waiter told me nothing is served anymore today. the museum closed at 19:00. How can you justify taking the place of a museum cafeteria, when your opening hours do not match the museum's hours?! ** Response after owner's edit: After a few hours at the museum already, I had to go somewhere else to get a break, and it eventually didn't make sense anymore to return for another exhibition. Post Covid days are not something new by now, after this beautiful, lively urban summer, and it is no news a big exhibition is about to end this week, so there are actually no surprises nor excuses in those departments. This is something I feel the museum should be informed of, and take in account. Good luck, I wish upon you more flexibility in the future. ** Edit @2: After my edit in response to lame excuses by the business, the business also reedited their response and chose to not ad to - but to leave out their initial ridiculous excuses. As of September 2025 I got a message from google, that the business has requested to remove this review on ground of defamation, which is in itself an aggressive act of defamation. So here's what public relations mean to you, and relevant reaction to customer's claims and interaction. This merely adds another reason for why I do my best to inform people why they should refrain from...
Read moreIt's a pity. I truly miss the former restaurant and it's beautiful art nouveau chandeliers even if the food was not 'trendy'. The fact that this restaurant pulled it all down for a lettuce wall was hard to swallow but the service is even worse. We went on a Saturday and waited 20 minutes in a large queue. Finally a large group left so a chunk of us were let in. There was no order of seating, as in people who arrived much after those who waited 20+ minutes got to order first. After another 15 mins we unfortunately ordered last and when we did we asked what was left. They did not let us know while waiting that the menu was a 23€ buffet or a sandwich. The buffet was half empty and we did not see any refilling so we ordered sandwich. The waitress told us there was 1 left, we ordered it. It sat there for another 15 minutes and eventually went to another table. We asked about it and they told us they would make more. Of course this meant 'a batch' so we had to wait another 15 minutes. All in all it took over an hour to get a sandwich (!). When we spoke to the waitress possibly manager (?) they did not handle the situation adequately through the lens of hospitality. My impression is that they have clients no matter what via the museum and with this attitude towards clients would not...
