Great location with great staff and affordable! When on a tight budget, this place hits all the right marks. This is a comfortable hostel with helpful staff, bunkbed/dorm style sleeping quarters, and clean bathrooms. This location is easy to get to from the main airport via the FEX to central station, then a short hop on the S-Bahn to Anhalter Bahnhof station and it is a short walk from there (all google map information was very accurate). When approaching from the sidewalk, it can be confusing how to enter the main building to the hostel.
The hostel is adjacent to a Catholic Church, just walk down the alley under the archway and take a left to the main door. You will be greeted by someone at the counter and I was checked in with minimal wait time. Check in does not begin until 3 PM. I arrived early and was able to lock my main items in storage bins, and head out in to the city to check in at a later time.
The main area features plenty of gathering space to meet new friends, pool tables, and a bar for drinks. Fast wifi is provided. There is also an outdoor seating area to hang out. They offer breakfast in the morning, I did not have the breakfast, so I cannot comment on this.
When given a keycard, you can proceed to the end of the main gathering area past the vending machines and swipe the card for secure access to the living areas. Each floor has its own restroom/shower areas. There is an elevator for use as there are multiple floors. The sleeping areas are further divided and secured by the keycard for your assigned bed. I found the door not to be too loud compared to other hostels in my experience, however this can be very user dependent as well. I always try to consider others when opening/closing doors.
The room was complete with 4 bunkbeds, a table with chairs in the center, and wooden lockers with individual latches to place your own lock to secure items. Be sure to pack your lock with you. If you forget, they have them for purchase at the front desk, but likely at a higher cost.
Each bed has its own small metal bracket on the wall with a light, USB charging port, and European style wall outlet. I suggest (for us North American’s) to bring a wall outlet converter that has two additional USB ports built in to the converter. The single USB worked just fine for charging my phone, but everyone now needs more than one USB in the 21st Century. Bathrooms and showers are divided separately between men and women. I found the facilities to be clean and in working order.
Overall, the beds are comfortable. You are provided a large pillow and pillow top-style comforter blanket on top of the provided sheets. My experience was quiet during the night. I did not hear any loud music playing from the downstairs main gathering area, which is the case with some hostels.
As far as location goes, this location is close to a grocery store and two cafe-style resturaunts just a short walking distance away in addition to easy access to the tram and bus stations.
Overall, I would highly recommend this hostel. The staff are friendly and make it easy to check in and check out. I did not encounter any issues during my stay. I...
Read moreI stayed from March 2-6, 2018 as a solo traveler. Wow! Just WOW! My first time in Berlin and Three Little Pigs Hostel was fantastic! I don't normally write reviews, but this was a particularly exceptional stay!
First off, clean. When I'm travelling abroad, all I want is to know that the facilities I'm using are going to be clean after a day and a half of flying. The showers are warm, the other facilities are hardly ever occupied to capacity so no waiting time. The beds are tended to and also clean. The pillow and linen stock are great. This is a make or break issue for me, you could have everything else, but let's be frank, we ALL know horrible facilities can dampen even the best vacations.
Security. I enjoyed have a spacious locker in the dorm. It's not that I don't trust people, but if i'm out and about I need to have peace of mind because, ok, i'm lying, I don't trust people I don't know so who am I kidding? Though later on in my stay I started leaving things out like my phone charger and phone while I took to the necessities and showered. I never once feared my things would be taken, and that's to the credit of the atmosphere the hostel exudes and the pleasantness of all of my dorm mates, which often changed depending on the night
For six euros in the morning I could partake in a breakfast buffet. It's not fancy, but i'm not asking for fancy I'm asking for sustenance. What I did get was more than adequate and tasty to boot. Lots of options for those of any discipline in dietary needs; omnivores, vegetarians, gluten-free, vegan, or if your like me and you just need a cup of coffee, juice, and a granola bar, it's all covered. The options, though, loaded me with WELL OVER my usual routine to ensure a hearty breakfast with all the eggs, meats, cheese, toast, multiple spreads (jams, jellies, butter, peanut butter, hazelnut spread), yogurt, salad (seriously? Eh, ok sure...but i'm judging you), and multiple cereal options, and chocolate pudding (listen, if you're taking salad, i'm taking pudding and we can agree to disagree and live our best lives for 6 euros). Hangover food? Check!
The cafeteria/mess hall has tons of space and activities. You can purchase food and alcohol at the front desk, free wifi that works throughout the hostel, and a nice, helpful staff makes everything work.
Location, you're within a mile walking distance if all major central attractions, and just a few steps from the U-Bahn that will take you everywhere. Seriously use it! It got me around in no time, and I'm glad the hostel was located so close to one, especially on those late nights at the gay clubs where I had a blast and all I wanted to do was come back in an sleep in a nice warm bed in the middle of that horrible Russian Whip cold blast that gripped Europe. I would stay here...
Read moreA really nice hostel for young adults. The building is located somewhere where it's both easy to find and not on a main road, what i personally find quite good. Moreover, it's not far from main station and you can easily use public transport there. But unfortunately in the exact area of the hostel there are no really interesting things. I loved the staff, although they weren't too friendly. It was like a "mate" treatment. The main hall (continue) and reception were absolutely gorgeous, i liked the atmosphere and decorations there. The other rooms were not special, just like in any other hostel i guess. Wi-fi was also okay. I was in Three Little Pigs Hostel with my friend and we slept in a mixed room for 8 people. It was all full. Some people are kinda friendly there and maybe will try to make friends with you, but if you show that you're not interested, they won't insist. At least it was in our case. As i said in the first sentence, this hostel is ideal for young adults. For active young adults. Everyone from our room came down to the main hall in evening/at night and had fun there, drinking and playing games. So if you're interested in new acquaintances and want to make friends, then this place is for you. Even if in your room people are not too friendly and just want to relax in their own beds, you can always meet somebody new in the hall while drinking on the bar, which has a pretty nice design. However, you also need to consider that if you take a room for lots of people, humans, who will drink in the evenings, will go really late at night. For me it was okay, i almost didn't hear anything, but for somebody it can...
