Pic 1(left) says that they are asking you to use liquid chalk because they are having problem with their air ventilation. You can see from other reviews about this issue as well, now they are asking us to use Liquid Chalk. The name “Urban” Apes doesn’t really work ;)
Pic 2(right) says that you need to register in their system and them your adress, birthday and so on, and every time scan your membership card when you check in, EVEN THOUGH you are a member of Urban Sports Club. So, you should check in twice.
I discussed about this with an employee, she said she can’t change anything. Well, I expected to hear “I will hand over this issue to my colleagues who can work with this issues”, instead of hearing “I’m here for check in, not to make something better”. By the way, last year, Urban Sports Club members didn’t need to register for Urban Apes. I guess Urban Apes didn’t make a progress with contract. Or they just want to have our personal datas and face picture.
So basically, you pay money for Urban Apes, but they will not make any better service for you. The only cool thing from Urban Apes is that they are in the city:)
Have fun with your expensive entry fee in smoky unfriendly bouldering hall in the basement in the city
+Thank you for your answer Urban Apes. First, does it mean that there were no insurance last year at Urban Apes, when I was doing Check-In with USC, without Urban Apes Registration? Were I in a risky bouldering place?
Seconds, as you can see from many other reviews, ventilation is an issue. If Urban Apes doesn't invest the visitors entry fee for better service, I don't see any future progress from this brand. Currently Urban Apes is taking customers entry fee + asking customers to be changed.
I'm more than interested to change to Urban Apes if it has better condition than USC, and I do ONLY Bouldering. But still, I don't see that "part" of customers entry fees to Urban Apes will not used for...

As far as variety of angles, setting styles, and volume/hold selections go, I would say it’s above average. The reason for the lower rating is the absolute lack of airflow in the facility. Not a single fan in sight. With the typical humidity around the area, it makes for a miserable experience. It’s totally fine if you’re looking for a casual time with friends, but if you’re accustomed to multi-hour sessions. Good luck. Even though ambient temp was 23 degrees C, my shirt and shoes were already soaked through within 30 minutes. My tips were raw within an hour.
There are also two system boards. One is a Tension Board 1 at 40 degrees with lights. The other is a 2017 Moonboard at 25 degrees(!?). Both boards have not seen a deep cleaning in some time. For the Tension Board, it does not matter as much, but for the Moonboard, it’s a good thing it’s at 25 degrees otherwise it would be unusable for anybody wanting to do benchmarks.
There are also a couple hang boards (beastmakers) and a free weight area. Again, the equipment is great, but just trying to train inside something that feels like a Turkish bathhouse just makes for a...
Read moreI thought Berlin is saturated with boulder gyms. Well, not in the mitte/Kreuzberg area, where this spot opened recently. Easily, this is the most central place for boulder enthusiasts. But I don't like it. (Edit) Even though I got an answer here which addresses some points. BUT: it seems to be less crowded these days, therefore I gave it one star up ;)
It is the most expensive boulder gym in Berlin (but not one of the biggest, so not much value for money), but it is crowded as hell, with a cold, bunker-like atmosphere (well, basement...) and standard routes. With seven different levels, just like the nicer bright site (probably run by the same people?), it might be good for beginners though. There is also nothing special about it: no outdoor area like bright site, sudbloc or kegel, no sauna like Bouldergarten, no traverse routes like Berta block and ostbloc. Oh, wait, I forgot: children are not allowed. wow, exclusive - well... I am more annoyed by the hordes of beginner boulderers here than by children elsewhere!! Ok, so I avoid it most of the time, so more space for the...
