The atmosphere was great and nothing suggested that the food was horrible!
The “soft boiled egg in a cup” was a cold hard boiled egg that moneyless people in the kitchen centers can get for free. This cold hard boiled egg was served with cold slice of salami that their menu labeled as breakfast “sausage” and called it a signature breakfast dish. Salami is a sausage, but it’s not a traditional “breakfast sausage” people expect for hot breakfast.
Lebensart’s coffee was burned. It was not an aromatic tasting drink but a burned, gas station like bitter beverage. Frankly, unacceptable for the introduction to Berlin in the morning.
Lebensart’s three open sided eggs were so over fried with the dried out yolks that I don’t know how my son was able to eat it. I still fell guilty for letting him eat that.
I had a potato soup with sausage that I love to cook too. This is one of my favorite soups. Lebensart managed to make it inedible - it was way too salty, it was not fragrant, it was a dark brown in color like a bean soup and the sausage was a hot dog that lost all the flavor and the lost flavors were not in the soup. The casing of this sausage was not removed — and I could have choked on it if I didn’t spit it out in time.
The only three things we loved were - Coca Cola in a sealed glass bottle we had to open using our own bottle opener, their bread and butter. I thank them for not giving us a margarine, and therefore a star for that. We paid more than $50.00 for this abuse and...
Read moreWas at the cafe at Lennestrabe 1 at last weekend with my friend. Now I choose 1 star just because of patisserie. It was really good. Then the waitress forgot about our payment and thought that we left just few euros (it was change that i decided to leave as tips to thank them). She was absolutely impolite, incorrect and rude. She didn't want to hear us, she didn't try to check her cash and bills or to do smth. else. After the conversation with her colleagues (may be one of them was her manager) we were said with doubts that it was ok and we could go, they didn't apologize for this situation and the waitress's behavior. We left that place with spoiled mood till the rest of the day. I've never been in such situation before and i even couldn't imagine it in a tourist place in Europe. I would like to say to the management of this chain of cafes, that IT'S NOT OK. And smth. to improve your level of service must be definitely done, specially working with tourists because now it's one of our memories of Berlin. I've still regretted that I went into this...
Read moreMy quest for authentic Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest Cake) led me to Cafe Lebensart at Potsdamer Platz during a recent trip to Berlin. My research had suggested they offered this classic German treat, and I braved a rainy commute specifically to try it. Unfortunately, upon arrival, I was met with disappointment – they were out of Schwarzwald Cake.
While running out of a particular item is understandable, it was the staff's reaction that truly soured the experience. Rather than offering an apology or suggesting an alternative, they seemed completely indifferent to my disappointment. Their lack of concern or effort to help in any way left me feeling dismissed and frustrated, especially after making a special trip in the rain. It turned what should have been a pleasant treat into a rather bitter experience. While I can't comment on the quality of their other offerings, the lack of Schwarzwald Cake and the apathetic service mean I won't be rushing back to Cafe Lebensart...
