Yesterday evening, I went with my family to eat at Calice D‘oro, hoping for a lovely time with my family. When we ordered our food, an old waiter was passive aggressive towards us as we didn’t know how to speak German or Italian but English. We let it slide as we still managed to place our order and just hoped it was a one-time thing. After I ordered, I realized I was pointing at the wrong dish on the menu card, so I immediately went to the waiter to change my order in hopes that I wouldn’t be stressing the kitchen. When I asked the waiter, he started to shout in (assuming Italian), to which I, in response, replied with “sorry” multiple times. That apparently wasn’t enough for him as he looked outraged. Although there was a slight language barrier and I mistakenly placed the wrong order, I am very saddened by this aggressive response to a customer. The food was alright, and the rest of the waiters were friendly and accommodating. Sadly, that couldn’t take my mind off this very uncomfortable experience I had with the aggressive waiter. To top it all off, another old waiter scoffed at us. The reason why? My dad accidentally pressed the wrong code, apologized and asked if he could try again. In response, the waiter gave us a side glare.
Even though we as customers had made our mistakes and apologized politely, the treatment was a horrible experience for my family and me. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anybody who would love to experience peace and joy with your family. Nobody should experience this kind...
Read moreWe came in as a group of four looking for a good place to eat. It looked like they might have some staff shortages because we were waited on by 4 different people. First waitress took out drink order. It took a long time after the drinks arrived for someone to come and take our order. An older man came over to our table and just stood there for a few seconds before we realized he is here to take our order. When we realized we apologized for not realizing this and when he heard we don’t speak German he walked away. At first I thought he was trying to be funny but we later realized he was genuinely annoyed. Our food was good however, my pasta with shrimp only had four or five small shrimp. We wanted to order dessert. We all wanted to order something different but were told that they only had two types of desserts while the menu listed 6 or 7. We decided not to order any and asked for the check. I think it took about 25 minutes and getting another waiter involved before we finally got the check. Not the...
Read moreThe service I received at this restaurant was really unfortunate. The head waiter refused to give us a carafe of tap water, something that has not been a problem across Berlin and other countries in Europe. Strange, but not a dealbreaker. As an American, I understand we eat pizza differently than those in Europe — hands vs knife and fork. However, as I picked up my slice, the head waiter came up behind me and decisively put a steak knife next to me and told me off for eating my pizza “incorrectly”. While I understand culture differences are present and real, I was shell shocked. It’s important context that this restaurant is in a very touristy area of Berlin, and has an English menu, leading me to believe I am not the first American to set foot in the joint. He said nothing to the Brits in the corner of the restaurant (all male) who were also eating their pizza with their hands. Stay away from this restaurant if you don’t want a sexist or stressful experience as a woman, or if you want to eat with your...
