Eispatisserie Hokey Pokey Mitte — Restaurant in Berlin

I had the “matcha and blondie with yuzu” ice cream. It was okay, but I didn’t think that the flavours meshed well together - the matcha and blondie were fine, but the addition of the yuzu brought in too many clashing flavours. The umami/earthy flavours of the matcha did not mesh well with the zesty/citric flavours of the yuzu. Normally I love these two classic Japanese flavours, separately, but I don’t think mixing them for the sake of mixing them was a good idea here.

The staff were excellent and really happy to help. They seemed genuinely happy to be there and atmosphere of the place was really lively on the sunny warm day that we visited, but there was no seating - you have to stand or sit on the curb.

I definitely think this place otherwise makes tasty ice cream. I tried by partners scoop and it had a much more complimentary flavour profile, but unfortunately, the flavour I chose, which forms the basis of this review, was...

Hokey Pokey isn’t just overhyped—it’s a masterclass in mediocrity wrapped in a €2.80 price tag per tiny scoop.

Let’s talk about the ice cream. The hazelnut flavor? A joke. Instead of the creamy, nutty richness you’d expect, they just dumped whole hazelnuts into a bland, watery base. The Bourbon vanilla? You’d have better luck tasting actual vanilla in a supermarket yogurt. And the texture? Watery and uninspired, more reminiscent of half-melted gelato left out too long than anything remotely artisanal.

Berlin is packed with incredible ice cream spots, yet somehow this place keeps dragging in the crowds. Seriously, save yourself the time and money. Even the most generic Italian gelateria outclasses this place. Hokey Pokey? More like Hokey Rip-Off.

Bottom line: Overhyped, Overpriced, and Underwhelming – Avoid...

It was so so so good! One of the best ice creams that I have tasted in my life, so creamy, so rich and such great quality. I bought the bucket for 9€, with 3 flavors and it was alot and 3 of us shared it. And the best part is the kind lady who served me, who was very welcoming and kind and told me about the flavors in details and also she catered to my dietary restrictions. It was the best dessert to eat after a day of fasting in Ramadan. Will definitely become...
