On the afternoon of 13th August 2024, I visited Restaurant Maximilians in Berlin, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. From 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, I encountered poor service, mediocre food, and an overall unpleasant dining experience.
Firstly, the food was nothing special—the flavours were average at best, and the quality did not justify the price. What was even more concerning was that shortly after the meal, I experienced stomach discomfort, which made me question the freshness and hygiene of the food.
However, the biggest issue was the terrible service. While I do not expect overly attentive service at all times, I do expect basic courtesy and professionalism, neither of which were present. The staff were unfriendly and inattentive, making us feel unwelcome throughout the meal. The worst part came at the payment stage, where one of the cashiers displayed a disrespectful attitude—both in their tone of voice and facial expressions. The dismissive and condescending manner in which we were treated was completely unacceptable.
Overall, this was one of the most unpleasant restaurant experiences I have had. With poor food quality, disappointing service, and an unwelcoming atmosphere, I cannot recommend this place to anyone. There are many better options in Berlin, and I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for a more enjoyable and respectful...
Read moreThis restaurant gave us the worst experience ever. Honestly, the food wasn’t bad, but the service my friend and I received was horrible and disrespectful. A middle-aged female staff (the first lady to the left in the first photo displayed on Google Map) took our order. When we had almost finished eating, we realized the pretzel we ordered hadn’t arrived. We tried to get a staff member’s attention, but it was surprisingly difficult. We made eye contact, smiled, and greeted them—nothing worked. Even when the server clearly saw us from the side of her eye, no one came over. Finally, after she finished checking out the table next to us, we tried to speak with her, but she cut us off with a curt “You need to wait” in a very unfriendly tone. When she eventually came to our table, I told her we hadn’t received the pretzel and wondered if it had been missed. Instead of addressing the issue, she snapped, “You should tell me earlier, I’m very busy,,” and left it at that. Excuse me? We had been patiently waiting, unsure if it was delayed or forgotten. If we had asked earlier, would she have just told us to wait again? On a more positive note, another more senior staff member, dressed similarly, was much friendlier. Though she didn’t speak English, she made a genuine effort to understand us and provide what we needed. This is all we were asking...
Read moreAs a family with 2 minors we went on Saturday to Maximilians. It was not the first time, but this time we were pleasantly surprised by a young waitress, Katharina, which went all the way to make us all feel at ease and comfortable. This is outstanding customer service at its best. Staff is a business' biggest asset and not considered in the balance sheet. In our view quality customer service delivery with a smile makes the difference in the restaurant business and to come back. To serve is one thing, but to serve with a smile is another level. We hope more customers can experience Katharina's service levels and I wish Maximilian's management nurtures talent, and she will be around for quite some time.
If you look for Bavarian food and beer then you have in Berlin Central, 2 restaurant choices close by : Maximilians or Hofbraeuhaus (HB). Both offer excellent food quality and draft beer. The difference is in our view the atmosphere and service levels : HB can seat more guests with live music and interior has a Munich HB replica feel with benches and interior decoration. Maximillians has newer interior and less of a Bavarian typical beer cellar experience with no live band. Whatever you decide as a venue, enjoy the Bavarian...
