Stück — Restaurant in Berlin

We visited this bar two days ago to celebrate a friend’s birthday. While the music was great and the drinks were well-made, our overall experience was soured by how the staff handled tipping.

Here’s what happened: We started with table service, which was fine for the first hour, but then it stopped, and we had to go up to the bar to order our drinks. Again, we get it—places get busy, and it wasn’t a problem. What was weird, though, was what happened when it came time to pay. After we settled the tab (a big one, mind you), a staff member came over to us and basically scolded us for not leaving a 10% tip, claiming it’s “customary in Germany.” Apparently, the reasoning was that we had occupied a table for a while and prevented other guests from sitting.

First of all, this isn’t the U.S.—tipping isn’t mandatory here, and we already tipped on individual drinks throughout the night. Second, tipping should be about showing appreciation for great service, and honestly, we didn’t get that. Table service disappeared after an hour, and when we went to the bar, the staff just took orders, made the drinks, and gave us the price. That’s literally the bare minimum of the job description. There was no extra effort, no small talk, no “going above and beyond.”

In the end, we gave a €10 tip just to diffuse the situation, but even that wasn’t met with any grace or appreciation. The entire interaction felt entitled, awkward, and honestly left a bad taste in our mouths. If the staff feel underpaid, that’s an issue for management—not something to guilt customers over.

AMAZING BAR AND THE BEST ATMOSPHERE!! Me and my boyfriend have come to berlin with no idea where to go of a night, the first place that caught our interest was stück, we noticed the venue a mile off from the beautiful candle lit atmosphere. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a huge friendly “HIII!” From our now friend Lily, who recommended us some beautiful cocktails at a brilliant price (me being a cocktail bar manager) other members of the team came in to visit and were equally as welcoming and lovely!! The next night we were stuck on where to go, and couldnt imagine anywhere better than stück! We came back and were instantly welcome with a huge hug from Lily and cindy as if we had known them for years! The place was booming with great atmosphere and great music. Although very busy both girls managed the bar excellently and drinks came in no longer than a couple of minutes ( 2 for 1 as well!!!) we are well and truly considering moving here after knowing now much we will miss this place and how much we felt at home....

I’m sorry to write this poor review but when people do me wrong I must. The bar is really nice, and cocktails are interesting but I ordered a “wolf whiskey sour” and IT DIDNT SAY on the menu that the whisky blend was smoky. Now if u understand a bit of whisky u kno that the smoky ones u either love or hate. I personally hate them and when I went really kindly to ask to have something else I was told that it is what it is and the bartender didn’t want to do a new cocktail for me, but yeah she came 45 min later with a shot on the house.
