The Digital Eatery — Restaurant in Berlin

I came to check out Microsoft's The Digital Eatery in Berlin, because - you know - free Internet.

And I was already a little embarrassed to turn up for - you know - their free Internet, with my Mac and my iPhone and my iPad and all that. So I found a secluded corner and I politely asked a guy who was sitting alone at a table there if I could join him and he said sure, just he's been tortured for the past 7 days.

And I figured - he's trying to warn me about the Internet quality but no, he was tortured by the government, said it was because of Edward Snowden and that he recognises me from Chechnya or Turkey, except I had a scar then and asked if it is really me. Attitude... Enjoying a - fine, smallish, not cheap - coffee among the ikea-meets-kids' playland decor, I ask for tap water and I am told "yes, we have that - in the toilet!" I press on; he says, in an undisguised attempt at shaming me: "we don't fill bottles here!"  What's with this small-minded, narrow-visioned culture in an overpriced hipster coffee place ? What about health and recycling ? Do you know, you West German important who thinks moving to Berlin frees you of the need for friendliness or even core politeness, that offering tap water is seen as basic customer service in less provincial capitals? Yes, you can try and shame me into buying bottled water I did not want (you didn't) but don't think I come back, and all that karma will come bite you back in your...

Center of the capital of Germany in a space owned by one of the biggest tech companies in the world and the internet is unusably slow. I asked an employee about it and their response was "yes sometimes it's very slow." Great, glad they're so on top of things here.

Otherwise, a decent space in central Berlin with a nice interior. Could use more power outlets and usable tables. Food is expensive as expected. Don't understand why people use this space for events when there are far better options with internet and power outlets that...
