Basil's Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Dusseldorf

On 28.03.2023 at 20:00 we have reserved a table for celebration of a birthday of a very close friend.

The atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff were great. Nothing to complain about, except for a rude and arrogant waiter with a beard who ruined a birthday dinner.

Here are the reasons why we left extremely dissatisfied because of this waiter:

1. He was asked to bring a birthday cake to the table with two candles already lit. He brought a cake with only one candle lit, and lit the second one when he had already put the cake on the table.

2. He ignored us, looking us straight in the eye twice, despite our calling. He never asked if we needed something or if something was missing.

3. He showed complete lack of courtesy and politeness throughout the entire dinner. I would visit the restaurant only if I never dealt with this waiter again, because every other aspect of the restaurant was very friendly and hospitable.

5 stars for the restaurant, 0 stars for that...

Den ersten Eindruck gibt es ja bekanntlich nur einmal - und im Restaurant Basil's muss man sagen, ist er TOP: Hohe Decken mit fetten Kronleuchtern, ein dunkler Holzfußboden, dunkle Tische und Stühle, der Sitzbereich am Eingang von Tageslicht erfüllt, der hintere Bereich in tolles Kerzenlicht getaucht, hier und da noch ein wenig moderne Kunst gepaart mit nostalgischen Hinguckern und fertig ist eine angenehme Atmosphäre zum Wohlfühlen.

Als wir das Restaurant an einem Donnerstag zum Lunch betreten herrscht hier schon reger Betrieb. Das Publikum ist gemischt und reicht von Business-People über entspannt und lässig dreinblickende Zweier- und Vierergrüppchen in Zivil, bis hin zur Familie mit Kindern. Dennoch haben wir genügend freie Tische zur Auswahl und entscheiden uns für einen Platz im vorderen Bereich. Auf dem Weg dorthin werfen wir noch einen schnellen Blick in die offene Küche, wobei wir einige ansprechend aussehende und herrlich duftende Kreationen in den Töpfen und Pfannen entdecken, die richtig Appetit machen.

Gekocht wird im Basil's italienisch / mediterran. Auf der Mittagskarte finden wir Salate, Pasta, Fisch, Fleisch und Pizza, jeweils fünf bis sechs Gerichte pro "Kategorie". Dazu gibt es je sechs offene Weiß- und Rotweine ab 5,20 EUR pro 0,15er Glas.

Die großzügige Auswahl macht uns die Entscheidung schwer, letztendlich wird es dann das Carpaccio vom Octopus (8,90 EUR) als Starter, gefolgt von den Strozzpretti mit Salsiccia (8,90 EUR) und dem Fisch-Grillteller (15,90 EUR). Dazu je ein Glas Lugana Otella (5,80 EUR). Und die Entscheidung haben wir nicht bereut, denn alles, was uns der freundliche und aufmerksame Service aufgetischt hat, war einwandfrei.

Schlussendlich halten wir fest: Egal ob zum entspannten Mittagsessen mit Freunden, zum Business-Lunch oder zum Abendessen mit dem Partner - das Restaurant Basil's ist für nahezu jeden Anlass...

This was my second night in a row in Basil’s, so I walked in with a small bottle of water and proceeded to drink some, when a gentleman who I thought was dining opposite me loudly said “did you bring that water with you, you cannot drink it here, put it in your bag”. Turns out this was a bald headed waiter (must also be the owner based on his behavior) who was dining alongside customers, which also is not customary. I just found that extremely rude and German!! I ordered 3 beers and 3 dishes. When in Germany you always tend to get a taste of their well...
