Situated just a stone's throw away from one of the most popular tourist attractions, i.e. Dom-Romer-Quartier in Frankfurt, this Japanese-French style cafe is a perfect put stop for visitors. The cakes and pastries here are good and they are one of my go-to places for birthday cakes. The beverage offered here is pretty average though people would expect better matcha drinks due to their Japanese name. The interior decoration and ambience are great that give you a homey feel (Western style). Apart from cakes and pastries, they also serve other light Japanese foods like sushi and ramen though most people who come here seemed to be for the former. However, it is sad to note that they could be falling victim of their success. Their prices are on the high side comparing with similar cafes around the city, so the CP ratio is low. I found the quality of their tea ware set was deteriorating. The spoon and fork I was given in my last visit had lost their lustre probably due to long usage. This was off-putting and I'd have preferred they gave me single-use plastic or wooden ones. I've read quite a few complaints about their bad services. Customers have to order and pay for their foods and drinks at the counter where there seems to be only 1 staff taking orders and receiving payments while the others preparing the beverages and foods. You can imagine that staff will be under a lot of stress when there is a long queue during busy hours. I hope they will do something to upkeep their quality though business still seems to be flourishing for them especially tourists are coming back post COVID era. I don't mind paying a premium...
Read moreAll the stars I gave it to their delicious pastries and the mochi. I’ve been going to this place for the last 5 years and have ordered a few birthday cake and also joined the Sunday brunch, but today was the last time that I’ll come back to this horrible place and it’s sad to see how the service went downhill compared to when I first knew this cute Japanese cafe. On Sunday noon the place was so crowded and loud. I stood up in the line waiting to order some pastries to go BUT there was a guy stood behind me got served first just because he is a regular customer (I assumed from the way how the lady talked to him). I was so annoyed as i stood in a line for a while because they were so busy but obviously being a regular customer got more attention, and I was overlooked and 2 staffs were busy serving him while one could ask me what I wanted, nope I was just like an air stood up there with no attention. And when I told them to pay with card they said cash only (with a very unfriendly tone) if I wanted to pay with card I have to wait because the machine is upstairs because of the Sunday brunch, is that my problem? No of course it’s your problem. You have the whole restaurant packed of people, then you should provide at least 2 machines one upstairs and one downstairs for the cafe. Service is DISASTER I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone and I definitely won’t be coming back no matter how good the pastries are, the way how they treat customers are just disgusting!
Could that be that they are so busy and successful so they don’t care about the...
Read moreWhat I experienced today was an absolute disaster. I ordered a matcha latte and since i visit Imori everytime i‘m in Frankfurt i knew what to expect since the quality has always been very good. Well that seems to have changed. You could already see the brownish green colour of the matcha and the clumps swimming in the milk. The colour is usually an indicator for the quality and this was a very low quality matcha. That also reflected in the taste which was extremely bitter which again usually stems from poor quality or wrong preparation. In this case which i discovered when i went back to the counter to complain its a mixture of both. Preparing Matcha Powder in a glass with a metal spoon ?? I have never seen this in a cafe before. Charging almost 7(!) Euros for this is unacceptable ! When i mentioned these points very friendly to one of the employees he answered that its probably too much matcha. When i repeated that its the preparation and the quality he told his colleague to prepare a new one with less matcha and he was gone. The second Matcha latte i get is heavily foamed milk with some green clumps. At this point i gave up arguing because this whole situation is not what i expect to unfold when i visit this place. No one seemed to care really and chatting with each other making fun of the situation seems surely more professional. No refund or alternative offered. NOTHING ! This was the last time i...
