We mistakenly thought with all the great reviews this place would be amazing. Sadly, it was not so. First, the prices are extremely high, but, we don’t mind to pay for quality which is what we expected. Our waitress was so rude from the moment we sat down, slamming the menus on the table and walking away. You don’t need to be my best friend but, at least a smile…anything?…We ordered an agadashi tofu: cold and slimy. A yakitori appetizer: flavorless and rubbery. Sushi nigiri - tamago (old, too sweet), tuna (looked great, tasted like cold rubber), tako (silicone, flavorless, couldn’t chew it), unagi (fine, not great), ebi (inedible, truly). Tuna roll (didn’t even touch it after tasting the nigiri). All the nigiri was covered in an inch of wasabi. The rice wasn’t flavored well. The waitress brought us the wrong items at first, and when we explained she had brought the wrong items and could she please bring us what we had ordered (asking very nicely and humbly) she became enraged and started to argue, rolling her eyes and getting angry. Not one attempt to understand that she had brought the wrong food. She then left in a huff and brought us 6 more pieces of the wrong nigiri. When we said we did not order that, she again was angry, left it in the table and slammed more menus down on the table next to us and disappeared. Never to come back to our seating area at all. We asked another waitress for the bill and sure enough, they charged us for the original wrong order AS WELL AS the 6 pieces we didn’t want. All in all, our most expensive, inedible, and rudest meal in what was otherwise 3 days of perfect service and food at every other restaurant in town. The waitress should not have a job in food service at all. Do yourself a favor and don’t go here-go to the sushi restaurant right next door to it-the service and food there was lovely. P.s. the new waitress boxed up everything because we didn’t eat it so we took it to go. We placed the bag on top of a garbage can nearby and stood for a moment to smoke. A homeless man went amd opened the bag and smelled it and threw it in the trash. Goodbye 80 Euro for food a homeless person would...
Read moreAbsolutely 10/10 restaurant for true sushi lovers, and with that I mean, if you really love quality raw fish, this is your spot in Frankfurt.
Upon entering the restaurant you’ll immediately notice the very quiet atmosphere, no background music, no loud crowds, everyone seems to be able to read the room - which is to be respectful of the peaceful space they’ve created in this rather modest restaurant in the center of Frankfurt. The interior reminds me a lot of simple sushi establishments in Japan. No fancy interior, no fancy utensils or plates - in fact even the cheap chopsticks you usually get when ordering delivery food.
They are go all in on their sushi though!! And oh my - do they deliver!!! The sushi chefs are older and look very experienced in their craft. When having their sushi is when I really knew why they didn’t need to make a big fuss around interior or fancy concepts. The fish sortiment was exceptionally fresh and clean tasting, all melted on your tongue immediately. Also a positive surprise, they put the wasabi on the rice underneath the fish for you (nigiri pieces) just like real sushi chefs do in Japan - small detail but big difference. We also tried the tempura shrimp. I always find tempura items to be a good indicator if a Japanese restaurant is solid. It’s a simple yet difficult item, similar to a French omelette. Holy moly, their shrimp tempura was amazing! The shrimp was so juicy and had a perfect texture and the batter was so light yet crispy. It was absolutely perfect. I was blown away!
Given that this is Frankfurt and you don’t have as many authentic sushi places around, of course you’d pay a good amount of money for this quality. But honestly, if you’re a real sushi lover, please pay the money, support this amazing establishment and also...
Read moreWe went there in summer as someone had recommended the place. I don't even want to comment on the food as it is probably ok but what ruined the entire experience was that arrogant yet incapable woman that was mumbling something behind her mask giving us a stern look at every question. Her poor German and lack of interest to actually serve the customer made things worse. I do not go to a restaurant because I am hungry but because I want to enjoy myself, don't I? When I was looking around there were dirty cloths lying on the area which was supposedly intended to be an authentic Japanese seating place. But no-one was sitting there. Only dirty cloths and cleaning bottles. Hm. Very inviting. But the person who had recommended the place and was with us insisted that everything was great and I shouldn't be picky. They charged 1 Euro for each cup of tea. Who is being picky here? A couple of days ago we decided to give them a second chance. Maybe my expectations had simply been too high. So we entered at 6:30 when they had just opened and asked for a table. The same dry waitress asked us if we had a reservation. We did not so she said we could sit at the table right next to the entrance. A rather daunting spot. We asked if we could sit at the authentic seating area but she said no. No emotions, no being sorry for not being able to serve us any better. She was just imperative like an army general. I felt the same uneasiness as last time and we decided to leave. Upon leaving she started giggling towards her male colleague. So glad for her that she knows exactly when it seems to be worth being friendly. For us it means....
