Did you hear the one about the Irishman who went to an Irish bar in Frankfurt? Left hungry and disappointed 😞 Ordered a pint, couldn't pay for it 'contactless'....not less than a tenner I was told. Supermarket up the road had no problem for €2 and pubs in Ireland (aka real Irish pubs...) don't have a problem. Thought COVID had made it universal and it's saves the businesses cash handling costs. Told barman I was going to eat as well and was told to sit somewhere 15 /20 mins later I manage to get attention of waiter. I start to order, only it seems there is a problem.... I'm at a table with 4 seats and the front section of bar is filling up and there are two more customers. The side area is empty. My absence of German may be a problem but I think I was being asked if the couple could share with me. I felt this was unfair to them and I didn't particularly want it either so I got up and said I would move.... although that left them with a similar problem - a couple seated at a table for four 🤔 Having got up, I decided, I was exasperated enough without having to start again. Went back to the bar, said I wanted to pay for my pint. Was told to pay the server. Again, I asked if I could pay contactless, but no, "cash only". 🤔. I told the barman, in a civil manner, that it was the worst service I had in a long time. I left unhappy and hungry..... Went to an Indian restaurant up the road and had a pint and a good feed with good service. Anytime I hear the name O'Reilly, I will think of O'Reilly's Frankfurt. 😖 Anytime I hear of an Irish bar, I will think of O'Reilly's... 😖 Then again, Irish people maybe should generally know better and avoid Irish bars unless accompanied by non-irish who insist...
Read moreWell well well 😅 Where do we start with O'Reilly's. First and foremost, the establishment itself is pretty decent, the food is good...We got the BBQ wings and the fries and it all tasted pretty good.
The service was also quite stellar and very understanding (i.e, a glass broke and the lady serving us quickly came and cleaned it up for us). The food also didn't take too long to come, so service gets 5 stars.🌟
Now! The location and atmosphere 😂 What's important to note is that it's located right at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof! If you know anything about that particular Hauptbahnhof, is that it has very erm "colourful" characters in that area😂 We sat outside to get some some sun and I had a hobo who was busting some dance moves about 5 meters away looking me dead in the eye until I gave a nod of approval then he waved back and continued dancing (and smoking).😂
Also, if weed smoke and other smoking is not your vibe, you might feel very much out of your depth in the area. There is a lot you'll see sitting outside and some of it (for the faint of heart) will leave you feeling very uneasy...but as someone who is now well versed in Frankfurt HBF, it's like a lil spice of life 😂 Just sit inside if you want a bit more peace of mind.
I feel kinda sorry for O'Reilly's coz if it was located literally anywhere else, it'll be 5 stars all around for me.. But they have the unfortunate fate of being located at the Hbf so all in all, it's just okay simply coz...
Read moreCame in to watch the match between Germany and Spain and it was certainly packed! I'm surprised we found a spot at the bar in the back but it was a good spot and we were happy. During the night we had a few pitchers of pils and some bar food - we had the Nachos and the Fish & Chips (I mostly had the Nachos). When I was eating the nachos they were certainly different, there were baked beans in it and they oddly didn't have any flavor. They had a few ingredients - meat, cheese, beans, sour cream, guacamole, tomatoes or pico 🤷♀️...but it had an odd flavor (or a lack of one, I couldn't tell). We had the food a little early on and throughout the night I was starting to feel queasy and I had the urge to throw up. Although we had a few pitchers of beer, I fleetingly thought maybe it was because I just drank too much but I didn't feel that uneasiness that comes with being drunk. Without getting into the nitty gritty, I did get sick at the restaurant but I knew that the nachos never went down and were never digested - there was something in them that my tummy straight up rejected. I'm giving this restaurant two stars because our specific bartender stood up for us when it came to a trash bag of a man and also that this place is definitely a fun place to be when it's really busy. Would I come back for food...absolutely not, but I might come for drinks again or to...
