Bit disappointed as it comes with high reviews both on here and TripAdvisor. Their website it says to call a number for a reservation. We called and the guy said to do it on the website. We told him the website tells us to call this number, he mumbled something and told us he can't do it right now. We chanced it and got there tonight. Plenty of seats. We ordered the famous north sea crabs sandwiches (15 euros each) - the bun is supermarket bought, dry and a bit hard. It had a bit of sauce and butter and it's served cold. I might be a bit biased because I like seafood, so my review might not be as harsh, but I wouldn't order it again.

Great Fischbrötchen! Good quality nicely cooked fish with tasty fresh bread. Be aware that it is a crowded & quite popular place, so, expect to see a queue, plus it's a bit more expensive than the other places around. In case you prefer a more intimate atmosphere, there are benches & space on the upper floor, where you can also enjoy the view over the river & the port, along your Fischbrötchen. ;)

Absolutely a must-visit in Hamburg to experience the authentic fish sandwiches. We heeded the staff's recommendations and ordered three: two traditional ones with fish fillet and onions, and a "conservative" option with a fish cutlet. All three were incredibly delicious! It's a delightful aspect of Hamburg's unique cuisine that sets it apart from the rest of Germany.

Unfortunately a tourist trap - taste wise. Backfish sandwich was very cold and oily, bread was not very fresh. North Sea crabs looked really dry so didn’t want to risk 15 euros. Atmosphere is very nice. I wanted to have a second round of drink after the food. They informed that I have to wait in the same queue where people order&receive their food.

To be honest I was a tiny bit disappointed because the shrimp sandwich looked better on review pictures :( Also, it costs 11 euros, which I think is quite expensive. Having said that, the food is delicious and the setting, location and environment are really nice. It can be quite crowded but they are very fast to handle the demand.

If you want to have the true experience of having a Matjes (Haring sandwich) from Hamburg in front of the Harbour, this is truly one of the best places. The quality is insanely good and the price is fantastic. Also the staff is the most friendly you can find in Hamburg. Definitively recommend, either for dining in or for take out.
