Hamborger Veermaster — Restaurant in Hamburg

Spent a weekend in Hamburg and came here twice.

If you're coming here then it's for dinner and some drinks not just for beers. The atmosphere is warm and lively with, usually, singing going on. The beers are varied and tasty which is the same as the food.

You'll find the usual selections such as schnitzel of turkey or pork.

There is plenty of seating but this place does get busy so either make a reservation or be prepared to wait a little bit.

I saw the whole range of ages here; groups of mixed young adults up to those who look to be happily retired.

It is on the Reeperbahn but that shouldn't put you off. Just don't be here at midnight without expecting the livelier atmosphere starting to happen outside!

Rather mixed impression. It's kind of a restaurant/kneipe version of October fest. They play/sing schlager very loudly, you can hardly hear the person next to you. There are tables and benches for eating/drinking. The tomato soup tasted more like a pizza sauce. The main dish was salmon and it tasted good, big portions and very tasty oven potatoes. The dessert was Kaiserscharrn which was decent though the almond crunch was a bit hard. Price above is including all dishes and 4 beers which is ok. Früher ein tolles Lokal - gutes Essen (das flott auf dem Tisch stand), tolle Stimmung, top Service.

Betonung liegt auf FRÜHER. Nachdem der alte Veermaster pleite gegangen ist, wurde unter gleichem Namen ein paar hundert Meter ein neues Geschäft eröffnet. Leider mit völlig neuem Konzept. Abgesehen davon, dass der neue Standort kleiner ist - nichts mehr zu sehen und spüren vom Geist des "alten Hamburg", dabei war das maritime Flair DAS Kennzeichen des Veeemasters. Er war quasi das kleine Pendant zum Hofbräuhaus in München. Statt Partyschlager mit Urgestein- Live-DJ in rustikalem Ambiente kommt man nun in eine beliebige 0815-Bar mit angeschlossenem Restaurantbetrieb für Pseudo-Schicki-Micki-Publikum, passend dazu ein mittelmäßiger Alleinunterhalter, der internationale Klassiker nachzusingen versucht.

Das Essen ist okay, allerdings haben die Preise deutlich angezogen - bzw. einfachere, preisgünstigere Gerichte mussten weichen (z.B. kein Schweineschnitzel, nur noch Kalb für schlappe 28.90 Euro), kleines Filetsteak für 38 Euro (was ich, wenn ich Bock drauf habe, lieber im Steakhaus esse). 13.50 Euro für ne lauwarme Krabbensuppe ist auch ne Ansage, oder 2.9 für bissel Brotbeillage zum Salat. Naja, viel Erfolg bei der Touristen-Abzocke!

Nur am Rande: Man sollte auf der Homepage nicht nur Preise und Veranstaltungstermine ändern, sondern auch die Vorstellung des Ladens.... nach aktueller Aussendarstellung erwartet die Besucher weiterhin maritimes Flair und Party-DJ....
