Binokel Café Bistro Mannheim — Restaurant in Mannheim

A lot of reviewers talk about how good the food is at Binokel. They must not have ordered the Spaghetti Piedmont. That was a disaster. It tasted bland and boring, and the shrimp tasted like they had passed their expiration date. My wife ordered the linguine with salmon.. that was a little better, but still not great. Also, our food arrived at a ridiculous interval. My wife's dish arrived first, followed by the appetizer a few minutes later (mushrooms... they tasted like they were out of a can), and then my dish more than 5 minutes later. The decor was outdated and there are lots of ugly plastic flowers on the walls, but it's not horrible. The waitstaff was attentive and apologetic about the food delay -- I wasn't disappointed with my waitress. Maybe the food would be better if you order traditional German food, but I find it disappointing that they can't produce an edible pasta dish. I...

I come to Cafe Binokel a lot. I love their food, the Flammkuchen especially, and their coffee is great. It's nice to just sit there for a few hours with friends and enjoy an afternoon coffee or drink. The service is friendly and helpful. Outside, they have separate zones for smokers and non-smokers, which makes it an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. Inside, their restaurant is large and has enough space for a 10 person dinner party, but do make a reservation for that! After a Sunday breakfast with my sister, we were looking for a place where we could have a good time both visually and pleasantly, and we came across this cute place. They were very attentive and friendly when getting advice on drinks. The decor and the guests inside were great. We sat there for so long that I can’t remember the names of one of the 2 ladies working, but I would like to thank both her and Budascu, who hosted us with his pleasant conversation and always smiling face, with whom we chatted from time to time, and send my love.
