Very rude staff. I came in with a group of six. I ordered a light beer that I liked on the menu and that was listed as vegan on a website I use called Barnivore. The waiter refused to serve it because he thought I might enjoy their Andechser beer better. I thanked him for the suggestion but said I actually just wanted the other beer that I had ordered but again, he refused to serve it to me because he thought the other one tasted better. After a couple of minutes of this and me trying to explain that I actually knew what I wanted, I had tried it before, it was vegan and I didn't want anything too heavy, he still kept insisting that I was making the wrong decision. The people I was with were now starting to get really uncomfortable so I just ordered water. He then asked to see my phone and to see what website I was using. I explained what Barnivore was and he insisted that Andechser was vegan too. I gave up and ordered the beer he recommended. The beer was totally fine, a bit heavy for me at that moment but I probably would have loved it at another time.
It's admirable that they are proud of their namesake beer but they shouldn't be so patronizing. I didn't like being bullied into buying something that I didn't want.
Edit: My reasons for asking for a specific beer should be of no concern of the staff. I asked for a certain beer on the menu, the waiter refused to serve it to me. It was also rude of the waiter to take my phone and look at the website. The fact that I use Barnivore to look up things does not matter at all, just like the fact that I wanted something light. The beer should be the choice of the customer, not forced upon them by the staff. I know what I wanted and they refused to...
Read moreBe careful, check the receipt! The food has potential but we will not return. We ate here in September and were treated very rudely by our waiter. We were barely greeted and were thrown the menus on the table. We were told very rudely that we have 1h and not one minute more, then we have to leave. The service was poor throughout the meal, and the waiter made us feel unwelcome and very uncomfortable. We were having dinner with our children and with our grandparents and the grandparents were shocked by the appalling attitude of the waiter. After the meal we were presented the bill and we saw that we were charged a lump 15€ service fee (tip) on the receipt! This is unacceptable, as in Germany tipping is a courtesy of the customer, and is not to be added by default like in the USA. We were told by the waiter that it is a fee that they charge during Oktoberfest and that there is nothing he can do about it. Also, we realized that we were charged double for the kids' menu. After complaining to the manager or person in charge, we were refunded 25€, which is fair and we appreciate. That being said, the duck was good, Spätzle below average, so there is potential; however we don't appreciate being treated disrespectfully, nor being ripped off, and therefore will not come back to this place. The Andechser am Dom business will unfortunately not notice losing us as customers, as it is in a prime location that gets flooded by tourists, but we'll also not recommend this place to others and won't come here to host business dinners...
Read moreThe reason why I give just 2 stars is mainly because of the extrem high prices for the really medium to.low quality of food whe got, and the lack of service. We sat on a table and we where asked for drinks, but we never got more menus, there was just one on the table next to us so I took it and even after he saw us sharing it, he never brought nother one. The place is very popular aa a tourist traction, and I know many Münchner also booked tables here, but I am surprice aboit the bad service whe had and I was expecting a nice dinner for the prices of the menu. First of all, there was no option for children on the menu, Wich is normaly no Problem because my 2 kids can perfectly share an adult portion of 'schnitzel mit Pommes' Pommes (chips) where souked in fat, way to cooked and realy dry. The meat had no flavor at all! And whe payed 16 euros for those 2 little portions. Wich I found completely overpriced. I ordered 'Käsespätzle' and they were also souked in fat, the flavor was just too salty... I couldperfectly taste the saturated pork oil used over and over again to 'give taste' and just ruining the food. My husband had a 'Schweinhaxen' and it was fine but the knödel were tiny and it was dry. All for a very high price. Really, you cn go to ANY other place in the city, pay half of it and have a much better...
