We came by for dinner without a booking and was able to get a table without having to wait very long, it was situated pretty much at the rear of the restaurant. The restaurant was huge and it was connected to the bierhaus next door (which also has it's own entrance). After getting a table we got German Menus and took a while to get an English one. Someone also left some bread on the table. You can eat it but you do pay for it afterwards. Unbeknownst to us, we were supposed to share the table with couple who came by about 10 minutes later. They were as confused as we were and left as we were already seated. It was actually quite hard to get a waiters attention since they were all really busy. Once we got someone, we grabbed drinks and food to share. The Selection of roast meats was really good value, plenty of meat for around 20 Euros. The sausage platter was smaller than I thought it would be but did have a nice selection of different sausages. The venison goulash was fairly interesting but it was hard to tell it was venison with the sauce. The schnitzel was tasty and crispy. I thought it was a nice experience even though the service wasn't the best. The large dining hall and the huge selection of Bavarian delicacies (and beer) are good reasons to try this place.

I have family in Germany, Munchen being one. I asked them to take me to spots they like to visit and this was one of them. The place is massive! if you have time walk around to the different dining rooms, it's an experience in itself. We had eaten at a festival nearby so we stopped for drinks only in the bar area. I'm fortunate to have family who answer my questions so I'd like to pass some important information along. 1. Most of the times water isn't free in Germany as it's customary to serve bottled water. 2. Service isn't as warm and cuddly in Bavaria, but tipping is also less. About 5%. 3. They will leave you be unless you make it known you need something. Such as raising or motioning with your handor eye contact. 4. Go for and judge on the vibes, food and local authenticity rather than American standards. Or educate yourself and judge them on the local standards. 5. Appreciate when they do, but don't expect everyone to speak English. You're in Germany. So if you want good service, but overpriced bad food go to the tourist spots. But if you want a local experience give this place a try.

Review back in 2021 was not posted (because it was negative?) so I'm editing and reposting. Only good thing about this place is probably its location, and I wished we would have walked further down to the other Bavarian restaurants we patronised few days ago instead of settling with this place just because it's in the middle of the shopping street. Beer was okay, as expected. Food was bland, and service was non-existent. We waited for the host to lead us to the table. It was a non-peak hour (before the rush dinner time) because we wanted to avoid overly crowded places in view of the Covid pandemic. The host did not bother to walk further into the hall (it's a huge hall) and led us to a table near the door to share the standard table with another couple. It was Covid time, but the host didn't bother with social distancing. The distance was definitely less than a meter. We saw other local patrons disregard the host and choose their own table, so we followed suit and managed to find an empty table for ourselves inside the restaurant. In fact, there were many empty tables around inside the hall. Next - waiter who served us, when we asked for any recommendation, told us "I don't know" literally. He didn't seem interested to do his job, just wanted to take order and complete his task. And the English menu was very limited. Later on we saw other guests at other tables had much interesting food served and we asked the waiter about the dishes, only to learn that those are not available in English menu. Food was so bland (except for the sauerkraut that was so overly sour), and the portion was so small. We had to have a second meal after this dinner, in fact. Lastly, the tip. To pay by card, we had to walk to the cashier ourselves because they didn't have portable machines. My husband was told that the tip he paid was "not even enough for a child". Wow. He ended up paying about 15% for tip for unsatisfactory services throughout!

Food 1/5 Service 1/5 Value 3/5 Racism 5/5 Lots of racism towards Asian people. If you read the reviews that are in Chinese, you'll find that their experiences are similar to mine. First off, just find an open space and sit down. There are 2 entrances and you can just come in and sit. We walked through one entrance and then the guy said the entrance was next door. I think he was messing with us cause it didn't matter. After flagging down one of the servers in such a busy place, we confirmed you can sit anywhere. When we were ready to order (2 Asian people), it took us 20 minutes of actively trying to get the attention of one of the servers. It was clear they were avoiding our table and it was getting frustrating. We were trying to get their attention by holding our hand up, waving gently and had a big smile. A few servers saw us and we're clearly avoiding eye contact. We saw other people that just sat down get served immediately. We were about to give up until someone finally came to our table...after taking everyone elses orders. After ordering, we got our food in 5 minutes and 1 (of 2) of our drinks. That's super fast. After another 20 minutes we noticed the server forgot a drink so we had to ask him again and got the drink a few minutes later. As for the food, we got the signature pork knuckle. It was overcooked and lacked any flavor. It was extremely hard to cut it with a knife not to mention chew it. Along with the order came chewy potatoes (intentional?) And sauerkraut. The server came by again and we have them $51.55 for our $31.55. the server left $15 and said the rest was for tip. He then ran off. This was infuriating. The food and service did not warrant a tip. The place is highly rated online so I had high expectations. It's now apparent that this place is ONLY for drinking and don't expect much on the dining side.

Racist Waitress! This is the worst experience of my entire European trip. While the food was okay, the service was horrible. At first, my friends and I wanted to split the bill, and a younger waitress initially agreed, directing us to pay at the counter. However, an older waitress suddenly intervened, insisting we pay together. She then randomly asked if we were Korean. When we said no, she muttered something in what seemed like German and sang a bit of a Chinese song suddenly. After paying, I noticed she had overcharged us by 10 euros, about 15% of the total bill. I went back with the receipt and the bill to get a refund, but the older waitress dismissively said, "No, it's tip," and walked away, pretending to be busy. Feeling cheated, we decided to speak to the manager. As we approached a more senior-looking male staff member, the older waitress rushed to him and spoke rapidly in German. Both them displayed a clear lack of interest in resolving our issue, further infuriating us. My friend, understandably angry, argued that we would have tipped if asked but shouldn't be forced to pay extra without consent. Finally, the waitress reluctantly handed over 10 euros in cash from her wallet. This felt far too practiced to be a first incident. The waitstaff's refusal to refund and the older waitress's behavior made us feel deeply disrespected. We spoke English the whole time, yet she presumptuously guessed our nationality, which was offensive and felt discriminatory. This was the worst experience of my trip across seven countries in Europe, leaving me a very bad impression of Munich and Germany.

We’ve visited other beer halls and this was probably the worst experience. We waited at the entrance to be seated and one staff waved for us to go further inside — when we went further into the hall we weren’t sure if there was someone who’s supposed to seat us or what, as no one acknowledged us. Then we finally found a staff to ask where we should sit, and the staff basically scolded us and said rudely. “No you have to be taken to a table, you can’t just sit anywhere.” And walked away without telling us WHOM we should seek to get seated — so we were left to find someone who looked like a host to take us to a table. Once finally seated the waiter at our table basically just dropped two menus on the table and said “English Menu”. No greeting whatsoever. Really just minimum dialogue when we ordered our food and drinks. The waiter was really just doing the bare minimum to take our order and bring us our food. Despite the nice decor and lively ambience, we were just really put off by our waiter’s poor attitude. When we paid for the bill, guess the waiter was not happy with the tip (we did not give a lot really as we felt the service was poor). The waiter was very upset and pointed to the tips left next to us yelled at us “THIS IS TIP. THIS IS TIP” as in saying what we gave was not sufficient. Then muttered something in German (probably not kind words). So if you’re okay with average food with minimal service and being yelled at with not giving enough tips feel free. Otherwise there are other better places around.
