Ten years ago, I was here, and the transformation from San Francisco Café is still a success. The place has a vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere with four languages resonating in the background, and the beautiful paintings of coffee fruit branches pay a lovely tribute to the origins of every cup of coffee on each table here. The coffee is well-balanced and satisfying, and the café remains known for its cakes.
If you’re lucky to get a seat by the window, you can enjoy the view of the intersection leading to Eisbach, where the Pumuckl-themed pedestrian traffic light, a nod to the beloved Bavarian character Pumuckl switching between red and green.
The space is bright and inviting, with proficient service and wooden high stools and spacious tables along the windows. Raymond was super friendly and spoke very good English and gave us some tourist tips about the city and country. While we were there all of the other patrons were locals so we got to experience the feel of a quaint, local cafe with fantastic Americano Coffee and Cappuccino. I moved to Germany from Los Angeles and I struggled to find a place that feels modern and possessing the pulse of coffee and juicing culture in this city. Cafe Lehel meets the mark and is a cute and cozy place my partner and I go to for coffee dates, a quick bite to eat or a work moment on our computers. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. You can ask for a stamp card and the tenth coffee is on the house. It's a staple of mine and I highly recommend.
