Let me start by saying that the food was incredible. It was absolutely delicious and there are clearly some very talented chefs in the kitchen. However, the service was absolutely horrendous, to the point of disbelief.
It began even before we arrived. We were slightly late for our reservation, arriving at 20:39 instead of 20:30. In that time span (of less than ten minutes), we got two phone calls wondering where we were - one at 20:32 and the second at 20:37. We all thought that was incredibly strange and very unnecessary. The restaurant wasn’t full, we had told them we were running late and we were very apologetic about it.
We were served by two waiters over the course of the evening and it was impossible to tell which one was worse. One rude waiter can often be put down to a bad day, but two indicates a complete lack of care when it comes to hiring and training.
When taking our order, the female waiter refused to accept that my dad didn’t want a starter, only a main. She said the “rules” were that everyone had to have at least two courses and didn’t budge, even when we all protested against it and I said that people should be told that when booking. She ended up forcing a salad on my dad that he didn’t want and still had to pay for. I’ve never heard anything so insane in my life and I was absolutely disgusted by it.
When ordering drinks, I very politely asked for a glass of red wine and the male waiter’s reaction was nothing short of lunacy. He became incredibly aggressive, telling me that red wine didn’t come in glasses, only half bottles and that I wasn’t listening to him. I said I’d have a half bottle, then he got even more aggressive because I was somehow expected to know that that was only for white wine. After much more yelling and unwarranted aggression, I ended up ordering a drink I didn’t want simply to get him to stop shouting at me.
When our ordeal was finally over, we walked outside and spoke to two women who’d had a similarly bad experience. As we were talking, our waiter opened the door and shouted “It’s time to go home, time to leave, go away!” at all of us. It was a shocking end to a shocking experience.
The only reason this restaurant is getting any stars is because of the food, which was fantastic. There was one nice waiter there but we were unlucky enough to be served by the other two - a dark-haired woman with glasses and a younger man with a shaved head. Between them, they absolutely destroyed our evening, which is a serious shame given how hard the other staff seem...
Read moreAll around awful experience, so bad my girlfriend and I walked out without even ordering food. Both the owner and the waiter were, professionally speaking, the rudest people I’ve met in 10 years of travel abroad. From the time we walked in as a young couple we were treated secondary and made to feel very uncomfortable from the very start. The owner literally yelled at my girlfriend because she got too close to some ugly painting while taking off her jacket. The menu, which had barely any options to begin with, was overcompensating to appear fancy by charging unrealistic prices for basic dishes trumped up with more garnish than substance. The portions we saw were so small one could hardly leave satiated. The wine list, if you want to call it that, was incredibly sparse and also way over priced. They only had 2 types of champagne which started at $200/bottle and neither of which were any good. After being made to feel completely uncomfortable then being ignored entirely we decided to pay for our drinks and leave, we were then told that they only accept cash even though I had just watched the table next to us pay via credit card. When I questioned the waiter about this he became irate and started screaming at us. Bad selection , over priced food, terrible ambiance, and awful service. After walking out we went to the Mandarin Oriental down the street which provided us with an exceptional meal and fantastic service.
The owner’s despicable attitude is displayed by her comments of almost every bad review, of which there are many! That is probably why she lost the Michelin star she so readily dangles in the face of anyone who gives an honest opinion. She will likely make some smug remark about how I should go to a pizza place when in reality I never mind paying well for good food/service but this restaurant offers neither. I literally left and went to one of the most expensive places in the city instead where I gladly paid handsomely for an experience that reflected the price they charged. Maybe if you listen to your patrons rather than verbally accost them your restaurant will stand a chance of staying open long enough to receive a decent review that wasn’t paid for. Maria, the owner, will have to put her insecurities and unwarranted arrogance aside if she ever wants a customer to walk out without...
Read moreI will lay out the events and facts and not how I feel about this place.
Food was very good, but not exceptional, and the portions were very small for the price. Interior decor was tacky and not compatible with the size, ambience and price tag. Wine menu was very good! My son and wife had food poisoning that evening. Can’t tell for sure if its related or not to our ‘experience’ There is a house policy that each person needs to order an appetizer and an entree each, no matter if you want one or not. I’m somewhat ok with this (especially given the small portions served), but they should be more transparent about it when you book the table online - once everyone is seated it’s hard to walk away. They do have a font size 6 disclaimer in the back page of the menu.
Now let me tell you about the service…
We walk in without a reservation and were politely told they could not accommodate our party, even though there were a couple of tables available. When challenged about that, they explained the tables were reserved. We walked away, but on a limb I decided to look up the opentable app, and there was indeed availability in just 7 min. I booked it, waited and returned to the restaurant. We were greeted by the same waiter which was surprised to see us back, I told him I was able to book a table online and he flipped out, and raised his voice aggressively and told me if he said there were no tables, then there were no tables, and it doesn’t matter what the app says. I was taken back by that response and his tone, and the entire restaurant started starring at us; side plot is one of the patrons leaned towards me and said the server is generally very rude. I ask if he would honor my reservation or not, and he told me I was lucky because a table has recently vacated. To remind him how business works, I told him we were both lucky, since we were getting food but he got our “business”. He calmed down after that and we had a decent service afterwards. Fun fact, he didn’t ask if a tip should be include to our bill. Gets bonus point for self awareness, and the only reason...
