Terrible experience. I didn't even get a chance to try the well known Schmalznudel or Rohrnudeln because the service crew could not be bothered to serve us. We went into the cafe and none of the service crew greeted us or even looked at us. So we saw the seats outside and decided to take a seat and go in to order.
When some locals came in to order something, they were all smiles. When I ordered, she looked away while talking to me and even made a face at me. Me: "I'd like to have the Schmalznudel" Her: "5 minutes." Me: "And also the Rohrnudeln" Her: "We're out." She clearly expressed her displeasure with my presence for reasons unknown to me.
Moments later, our friend told us that another waitress had told us that we were not allowed to sit at the tables unless we ordered from her. All these is despite the fact that she never once bothered to come over to take our order while we were there. We stayed for a few more minutes and she continued to walk past us without heeding any of our call for her attention. In the end we left without getting to try anything because we were not here to be humiliated and treated like animals just because we're not Germans. It was obvious she didn't want to do business with us.
On a side note, the baker was really nice to us. He was the only one who smiled at us and we actually felt welcomed. I felt really bad that I'd not be able to try his craft work, but we just cannot stomach being treated like dogs by the rest of the...
Read moreThis is such a special place here in the beautiful city of Munich. This bakery cafe is absolutely Munich's hidden gem, not because of its location but because of its wonderfully delicious Schmalznudelns. Nowhere in Bayern nor in the whole entire Germany, will you find tastier Schmalznudelns. Amazingly Delicious!
What is it? A Schmalznudeln is similar to a doughnut, as it is fried sweet dough. However, it reminds me of a fried cheese danish and I love cheese danish.....but the Schmalznudeln tastes even better than a doughnut or even a cheese danish. In reality, the Schmalznudeln cannot be compared. It stands in a league all of its own.
This cafe is located across from the Eataly Restaurant, in the Viktualienmarkt area. You can't miss it as it is the cafe with the Bavarian style wooden façade on the outside (as well as on the inside).
The closer you get, the more the sweet smell of the Schmalznudelns grab a hold of you, and you can't help it but drop in. It's so great, as you can see how they are made, right in front of you. It's great to have as breakfast with a wonderful Cappuccino.
I love it here. This is definitely one of my top three favorite places to visit in Munich. I very highly recommend that you drop by and...
Read moreTerrible service and attitude. We followed a long queue to order some München donut, once ordered the lady were very mad that we asked if we can pay by card. After paid with cash we still want to order a seemingly popular drink, but then another lady were pushing my gf away since she didn't see a trolley coming from behind. And then the 3rd lady only trying to tell us we are not allowed to sit inside. Interesting! We never wanted to sit inside, all we wanted just to buy the München donut and the drink and sit outside. But all three ladies given us the look like we are their enemy or something, and couldn't wait to kick us out of the shop. Very strange, I insisted we just want to order that drink and all good, and the 3rd lady ask us to find a table outside and wait for someone to come and take that order. Guess what, no one comes after 15minutes. That's Literally my worst experience in München. And I have been in Germany for years. Maybe we are unlucky, but be noticed this could happen. Good luck if you still want to try this cafe. I meant everything I wrote here and ensure the entire authenticity of this very experience. It...
