Found a place to sit down and looked at the menu for around 20 minutes. No one came to take our order even though we saw the waitress pass by a couple of times. Thought it was self service so went to pick up a couple of beers from the counter. As soon as we came back to our table, the waitress literally pounced on us and said... you have to leave this area as it is not for self service. It had started raining and the area a few feet away for the "self service" was getting pretty wet. Joanna (her name) continued to shout at us to leave and had no explanation as to why she never came to take our order when we were sitting in the "served by waiter" area. Went to complain to a "manager" and he told us that the VAT rate was different for the 2 areas i.e. "Self service" and "Served by waiter" and that is why we could not consume our beer in the latter area. That is also incorrect as the rate on beverages is the same at 19% regardless of where you consume.. Unnecessarily rude and obnoxious behavior to customers!!

Stopped by the Viktualien market but was pretty much all closed up. Not realizing it was a Christian holiday, Ascension day, here in Germany we were unable to experience the famous market. However, the Biergarten was in full effect! Locals in traditional trachten and plain clothes alike had flocked to this central watering hole and were partying up. The vibe was semi electric and everyone was in a positive mood. The traditional brass band was playing German music and local food and beers were a plenty. We had two Local bottled heffewiessens poured into mugs and for a mid afternoon snack we grabbed a few sausages. I opted for the cheesy Kaisenbratwurst. My son went with the Bratwurst special which is a foot (or more) long brat with saurkraut and fried onions topped with mustard. The ambiance was epic.

The food is excellent, very very good. The big problem are the waiters. My boyfriend and I went there for lunch. All the waiters were very rude to us, we felt as if we had to be scared while asking for food. At the end of our meal, we went to the cashier desk to pay (we were tourists, where we live you have to go to the cashier desk to pay at restaurants). When the waitress saw us, she started yelling at us, shouting from far away saying how ignorant we are, everyone noticed it and looked at us while she was shouting.. and that's not all. When she arrived, she continued to insult us and then arrogantly said "ok, now let's pay. It's 45,67 Euros. How much tip would you like to give me?" I'm sorry but after treating your customers like this, asking for *tips* is absurd.

Beautiful location, but dishonest staff and poor food – tourists beware

The place is undeniably beautiful, especially on a sunny day. The setting is charming and inviting — but sadly, that’s where the positives end.

The food is of poor quality and clearly relying on the location rather than substance. But what truly ruined the visit was being cheated by the waiter.

My bill was €24.60. When the waiter (a man wearing glasses) asked how much tip I’d like to leave, I said 10%. I paid by card — and he didn’t give me a receipt. I had to ask for it. Only then did I discover he had charged me €30.70 — almost 25% more, not the 10% I agreed to.

I immediately complained, and only then did he threw €3 onto the table. This was clearly intentional. He knew exactly what he was doing -and hoped I wouldn't notice. This was the second time in two days I was overcharged like this in the area. It seems to be a common scam. If you decide to visit, don’t tip by card, always ask for your receipt, and watch your total closely. Better yet - spend your money somewhere that...
