Lebkuchen-Schmidt — Local services in Munich

I was absolutely appalled after reading the ingredients at home (too late, unfortunately). When a product claims to be "original" or "traditional," I expect a recipe that is decades, if not hundreds, of years old, made with ingredients that were available at the time. However, these Lebkuchen contain modern additives like glucose-fructose syrup, waxy corn starch, emulsifiers, invert sugar syrup, sorbitol (among others). I felt deceived by the marketing — this is not what I consider traditional or original. I have no desire to eat such ultra-processed food.

The producer even has a dedicated page explaining the product’s contents (https://www.lebkuchen-schmidt.com/de/weihnachtswelt/lebkuchen-wissen/lebkuchen-zutaten-40/), but it highlights only the key spices and other appealing ingredients, claiming using modern technologies for recipes that are hundreds of years old. All the questionable additives are conveniently omitted.

I called the hotline and was initially told I could return the purchase. However, after speaking with an employee in the shop and calling the hotline again, I was informed that food purchased in-store cannot be returned. Bekam seit vielen Jahren Reklamepost von Schmidt. Vergangenen Dez. auch per Mail. Keine Ahnung, woher sie die Adresse hatten. Ich löschte die Mail, bestellte nichts. Eine Woche später kam ein Begrüßungspäckchen, Wert 19 €. Ich rief an, wollte es ungeöffnet zurück schicken. Antwort: Das geht nicht, ich habe es an der Türe angenommen und muss es deshalb bezahlen!! Ich kapitulierte, zahlte eine Woche später mit online banking. Drei Wochen später kam die 1. Mahnung. Dann eine zweite. Ich schickte den Bankauszug zum Beweis. Es kam aber eine dritte Mahnung mit Androhung von Rechtsmittel. Ein Anruf im Büro endete schlecht: Die Mitarbeiterin war kaum zu verstehen, extrem kaltschnäuzig und uninteressiert. Daraufhin schickte ich per Post erneut den Bankauszug und drohte meinerseits mit RA. Das war im Februar! Seitdem habe ich nichts mehr gehört. Fazit: Schmidt kann mir in Zukunft gestohlen bleiben.
