Tucked away in the heart of the bustling Viktualienmarkt, Fisch Witte remains one of Munich’s most cherished addresses for those who appreciate seafood at its finest. With its unpretentious charm, impeccable freshness, and deftly executed classics, Fisch Witte has mastered the art of turning a simple fish bistro into a memorable dining experience.
On my recent visit, two dishes stood out as shining examples of what makes this place beloved among locals and discerning visitors alike.
To begin, the fish soup is nothing short of a revelation. Clear yet deeply flavorful, it strikes that rare balance between delicacy and depth. Each spoonful delivers the essence of the sea—fragrant with herbs and brimming with morsels of tender fish and shellfish. It warms you from within, evoking the kind of contentment that lingers long after the bowl is empty.
Equally noteworthy is the spaghetti with shrimps, which embodies the restaurant’s philosophy of letting superb ingredients speak for themselves. The pasta arrives perfectly al dente, generously coated in a light yet rich sauce that hints at garlic, white wine, and the subtle sweetness of ripe cherry tomatoes. The shrimps, plump and succulent, taste as though they were plucked straight from the coast that very morning—a testament to Fisch Witte’s commitment to sourcing only the freshest catch.
Service is brisk but attentive, with a well-trained team that knows exactly when to appear and when to leave you to savor your meal undisturbed. The setting, though bustling during peak hours, has an inviting market-side energy that feels quintessentially Munich.
In a city where hearty Bavarian fare often takes center stage, Fisch Witte is a refreshing reminder that sometimes the simplest dishes—executed with care and outstanding produce—leave the most lasting impression. Whether you’re a local regular or a traveler in search of an authentic taste of Munich’s seafood scene, this institution is well...

My family and I waited to get seated indoor for almost 2 hours and when it was finally our turn to get seated, we were asked to sit outdoor. We complained to the manager who led us to the table, because all of the people who waited before us managed to sit indoor. But they refused and said I should talk to their boss instead. I did and she said she is the 'big big boss' and so, either we sit outside or we get nothing. While I was walking out , I heard them laugh behind me. Out of furiosity, we decided not to eat there because of the appalling customer service.
In addition, they clearly discriminate against Asians. They allow non-Asian people to jump queue - while there was a table available for 2 people, the third group (who are German) in the line managed to get the table before the two Korean ladies who were standing behind us (since we're a group of 3 and we were first in the queue). The Korea ladies tried to reason with them but they still let the German couple to get the table and the Korean ladies still had to queue. This is ridiculous and is the most barbaric experience I've had so far. Simply...
Read moreFisch Witte is a great place with fantastic food and wine. It is always busy which underlines that I've been to Munich 4 times. First time we were lucky enough to get a table as someone was leaving. But visits 2 and 3 we were not so lucky. This time I thought wisely and booked a table in advance for my girlfriend's birthday. I arrived 2 minutes late. They took me through to restaurant part and tried to sit me with another couple who had loads of food on the table and they didn't look too pleased about sharing. Don't blame them. Next to them was a reserved table but not for me or for another 30 mins. We decided just to walk out and on the way out I saw the reservation card with my name by the cash till. So they had given my table to someone else. Please don't think this as a review to put you off going. Seems best to turn up and try and maybe wait. But I'm not happy about my table being given out and being told to sit with a couple of strangers who had also booked their own space. So the review is poor for that reason and that reason only. If you can eat here you won't regret it. I couldn't so can't give a...
