We went to the restaurant on lunchtime and we were lucky that only after two minutes a table was freed and we could sit down. The service was very "casual". The table was pretty small. The waiter after giving it a quick wipe, put the knives and forks directly on it (for blankets, let alone paper, did not even mention it) and gave us the menus, a large, plasticized sheet with about 15 dishes. The bread was cut in very thick slices and was sprinkled with olive oil with lots of fresh spices. In fact, the oil with so many fresh spices must have been something standard in that restaurant, because even the mussels and the vongole pasta were finished with the same oil. I did like the pastas, the salmon and the mussels. What I did not like was a plate of large, roasted shrimp. They were tasteless. In addition, they were cooked in those standard restaurant tiles that I hated. I do not think they justified the very high price they had. However, most  the dishes were delicious. The atmosphere was pleasant and the waiter very polite, a bit unusual for the waiters of Munich. In general we had quite a good time at this restaurant

When we arrived we asked for a free table and the maitre d basically shrugged us off to go look ourselves. There were a few free tables but they weren't cleaned and this took a while to get done. We had to fetch our own menus and had to flag down a waiter to put in an order. Our waitress was initially very rude but thawed out by the end, though still not great. So overall I'd say their customer service needs some serious work, especially for this price point. I understand the price has to be this high because it's fresh seafood in a landlocked area, but I will say that the level of cooking technique and presentation, though tasty, wasn't up to a professional standard. It felt more like good home cooking - still enjoyable but did not match the price. However, given that most of Munich's food is meat-heavy, I can see why here remains so popular.

The seating staff was weird about getting us seated. The food is good. The fish platter was fresh (including scallop, prawns, tuna, and sea bass) but a bit overcooked and VERY OVERPRICED. It was 120 euros, and to be fair the waitress did not let us know. Not only the waitress did not let us know how expensive the fish platter was, and at the end, the waitress keeps asking for tips and then was really rude to my friend. I don’t speak German so I didn’t know until later, but the waitress said it 3 times to my friend that she will never take my friend’s reservation email. Will never come back

Tucked away in the heart of the bustling Viktualienmarkt, Fisch Witte remains one of Munich’s most cherished addresses for those who appreciate seafood at its finest. With its unpretentious charm, impeccable freshness, and deftly executed classics, Fisch Witte has mastered the art of turning a simple fish bistro into a memorable dining experience.

On my recent visit, two dishes stood out as shining examples of what makes this place beloved among locals and discerning visitors alike.

To begin, the fish soup is nothing short of a revelation. Clear yet deeply flavorful, it strikes that rare balance between delicacy and depth. Each spoonful delivers the essence of the sea—fragrant with herbs and brimming with morsels of tender fish and shellfish. It warms you from within, evoking the kind of contentment that lingers long after the bowl is empty.

Equally noteworthy is the spaghetti with shrimps, which embodies the restaurant’s philosophy of letting superb ingredients speak for themselves. The pasta arrives perfectly al dente, generously coated in a light yet rich sauce that hints at garlic, white wine, and the subtle sweetness of ripe cherry tomatoes. The shrimps, plump and succulent, taste as though they were plucked straight from the coast that very morning—a testament to Fisch Witte’s commitment to sourcing only the freshest catch.

Service is brisk but attentive, with a well-trained team that knows exactly when to appear and when to leave you to savor your meal undisturbed. The setting, though bustling during peak hours, has an inviting market-side energy that feels quintessentially Munich.

In a city where hearty Bavarian fare often takes center stage, Fisch Witte is a refreshing reminder that sometimes the simplest dishes—executed with care and outstanding produce—leave the most lasting impression. Whether you’re a local regular or a traveler in search of an authentic taste of Munich’s seafood scene, this institution is well...

Disgusting customer service!

My family and I waited to get seated indoor for almost 2 hours and when it was finally our turn to get seated, we were asked to sit outdoor. We complained to the manager who led us to the table, because all of the people who waited before us managed to sit indoor. But they refused and said I should talk to their boss instead. I did and she said she is the 'big big boss' and so, either we sit outside or we get nothing. While I was walking out , I heard them laugh behind me. Out of furiosity, we decided not to eat there because of the appalling customer service.

In addition, they clearly discriminate against Asians. They allow non-Asian people to jump queue - while there was a table available for 2 people, the third group (who are German) in the line managed to get the table before the two Korean ladies who were standing behind us (since we're a group of 3 and we were first in the queue). The Korea ladies tried to reason with them but they still let the German couple to get the table and the Korean ladies still had to queue. This is ridiculous and is the most barbaric experience I've had so far. Simply...

Fisch Witte is a great place with fantastic food and wine. It is always busy which underlines that I've been to Munich 4 times. First time we were lucky enough to get a table as someone was leaving. But visits 2 and 3 we were not so lucky. This time I thought wisely and booked a table in advance for my girlfriend's birthday. I arrived 2 minutes late. They took me through to restaurant part and tried to sit me with another couple who had loads of food on the table and they didn't look too pleased about sharing. Don't blame them. Next to them was a reserved table but not for me or for another 30 mins. We decided just to walk out and on the way out I saw the reservation card with my name by the cash till. So they had given my table to someone else. Please don't think this as a review to put you off going. Seems best to turn up and try and maybe wait. But I'm not happy about my table being given out and being told to sit with a couple of strangers who had also booked their own space. So the review is poor for that reason and that reason only. If you can eat here you won't regret it. I couldn't so can't give a...
