Read moreNot an amazing experience. A lot of things added together, made this experience worth no more than two stars. There’s so many things, so this is a long post. We decided to go here because the host staff by the street seemed nice and told us it was a family place. We reserved a table and then it pretty much went downhill. They didn’t have our table reservation ready when we arrived on time (20.00), and when we were sat, the table wasn’t ready so they had to set the table when we were already seated, seemed a little off, but ok. They poured water in our glasses, but they didn’t have enough to pour evenly in all glasses, but never went to get more for us? Our server was straight up too much. He was an elderly male. We wanted to order appetisers, and let him know the ones we wanted. He then decided for us that what we ordered wasn’t enough for all of us, so he put one more thing on the order, which we didn’t ask for, and we literally had to almost argue with him to take it off our order (he didn’t offer it in a nice way, he was very pushy). This continued when we ordered our main course. We said one thing (pointed at it specifically on the menu) and he several times tried to convince us to buy another, more expensive menu item. He was straight up rude honestly. We also wanted to order our appetisers first and then the main course later, but this was not possible resulting in them taking away our appetiser plates before everyone had finished, and serving our main course. The food was nothing special, pretty bland, not a lot of taste. When we asked for the check we got a handwritten note, in Greek (we were very obviously not Greek) with our items? Never tried that before. All in all we left with a pretty odd feeling about the place. Other staff there was friendly, but some just seemed like they didn’t care, I don’t know honestly. Afterward, we went to see the reviews there which were mostly positive, but we couldn’t help but notice the incredibly unprofessional replies the restaurant has given to the more negative ones. Honestly go read it for a laugh. I’d recommend going to some of the neighbouring restaurants as the street is really nice, or even go down the plaka market where there’s also a lot other nice...
Read moreMy husband and I have been in Athens for a week and eaten at most of the restaurants on this pedestrian street. This one has been our only disappointment. First of all, we wanted to order a bottle of wine and the waiter asked what kind we liked and we told him. He suggested two wines (one was €35, the second was €38). He wanted us to choose one and get started with our dinner. We felt rushed, and I have a wine app (Vivino) which I like to use to get wine ratings. I asked him to wait a bit and we would decide and could we have a second wine list so we could both look separately. He became quite anxious and then a second waiter became visibly upset and gave us angry looks. We were quite unsettled by this surprising behavior so quickly ordered a small carafe of the house wine (he gave us a sample to taste) so we could get past the uncomfortable experience. The house wine was excellent. We asked for a recommendation of the octopus or calamari as a first course and he recommended the octopus. We loved the accompanying sauce, but the grilled octopus was tough had a fishy flavor (I think it mentioned a “roe” glaze which might have contributed to the fishy flavor). Secondly we ordered the chicken slouvaki which was delicious with the excellent tsitsiki sauce, but had very few tomatoes which were supposed to accompany it. The fried potatoes were plentiful and delicious. They served us delicious complimentary watermelon at the end of the meal. In summary, we felt that there was an uncomfortable atmosphere between some of the waiters which gave us the sensation of being rushed so they could turn the tables faster. We were quite surprised at the stressful and rushed atmosphere because the other restaurants in the area were so much more friendly and welcoming, and we’ve never felt pressured to choose a wine or order our meal at the adjacent restaurant or any others in the area. The food was acceptable, but not as good as we’ve been experiencing, or as amazing as the other reviews have been. The service itself was prompt, but we definitely felt a pressure to order quickly and to let the waiter...
