Stay at MET34 for the service, location and convenience. Before I visit a city for the first time I never know where best to stay. Met34 is located three to four minutes walk from the main tourist area, which is ideal as you don't end up in the thick of it. Even so it's only 15 minutes walk to the top of the Acropolis and adjacent to one of the main shopping streets. The many restaurants and bars can be reached within four minutes and the maximum distance you'll probably need to travel on foot to some restaurants is also 15 minutes. Its unlikely you'll ever need to use public transport, unless meeting for a tour.
When walking in Athens keep an eye on your purse and pocket, I was warned about thieves and encountered a would pickpocket one evening. I wouldn't say its dangerous in Athens, certainly no more so than most other European cities, but be vigilant.
The service at Met34 is second to none and better and most. Much more personal than any premium chain hotel with staff who know what they are doing and know Athens.
The apartment rooms are very large with everything you need for both leisure and business, including your own private WAN and desk and printer. Each room also comes with a dishwasher, kettle, toaster, microwave, frisge and coffee maker. The walk in rain and hand shower is a welcome treat after a hot day in Athens. The beauty of Met34 is that you can spend the day exploring ancient mounuments, but walk in to a home from home.
The breakfast is included in the price. You get freshly squeezed orange juice, a selection of bread and cheese, fruit, cereals and conserves. During Covid this is brought to your room, served up to 11am. Everything is fresh and enough to keep your going until supper.
State of the art rooms are controlled by a panel at the door and with various buttons around the room. The blinds, aircon and lights are all remotely operated. While this is modern, it can get a bit fiddly, but not annoyingly so. When you get the hang of it, the convenience is obvious. My partner, reading this review, also wanted me to add that she really liked the huge mirror wardrobe.
For us the blackout blinds leaked a bit too much light. Mainly because of the way the roller blind is fitted slightly away from the window to allow room for the Venetian blinds fitted in front, next to the glass. I can't help but think it may have been more effective the other way around. But this wasn't a big deal. We were even offered a room upgrade to a two bedroom apartment, with its own separateiving area, where one of the rooms was a bit darker. We declined the generous offer as we felt our room was too perfect to move from. But I can see this set up would be ideal for families.
One other thing that I noticed was the bed is smaller than a king. Certainly big enough, and very conformable mattress and pillows, but personally I prefer a bit bigger. I can see why the beds are European queen size, due to the way some of the rooms are laid out. This is not a major issue, but worth a mention. That said a European quewnw size is not a small bed and bigger than most people have in their homes.
On the day of departure we asked for a late checkout as our flight was in the evening. They allowed us to check out at 4pm without any extra charge, although I appreciate this was because they had the spare rooms to accommodate us.
I strongly advise you ask the hotel for a the tarnsferw from the airport. They don't make any money from this and you pay what any other taxi would charge you, which is paid directly to the taxi driver (about €40.) On this subject, never jump into a cab without a metered fare or you will most likely be ripped off. If a taxi tells you he doesn't do metered fares, take another cab. Or if you can ask the hotel to order you a cab.
If you have any questions or queries about the hotel or during your stay, , write an email or call the hotel, they respond very quickly and efficiently. My partner and I very much enjoyed staying at Met34. It's the perfect hotel to explore and...
Read moreThe MET 34 Hotel is in a very nice part of Athens near the Plaka area. The street is very narrow, and our driver had to let us out at the corner. We had to walk several yards down the charming street to get to the hotel entrance. The reception desk staff were all very friendly, spoke English quite well, and were exceptionally helpful with recommendations and directions. They even helped us make local phone calls to confirm information about our tours and dinner reservations. It has an elevator. The rooms are spacious, very modern, and comfortable. The rooms have a breakfast bar in the small kitchen with a stove, microwave, small refrigerator, water warming pot, toaster, utensils, plates, and cookware. The hotel is very automated – the lights, blinds, and blackout shades are controlled using confusing buttons located on various electronic control devices around the room. We prefer old-fashioned on/off switches. The hotel is surrounded by several restaurants with outdoor seating. It can sometimes be a bit noisy when you’re tired from a long day of touring or traveling. We stayed several nights and did appreciate the fact that the hotel is located within walking distance of many major attractions, great restaurants and eateries, shops, services, and markets. The breakfast which is included was adequate but mediocre. We let the front desk know at what time we wanted it to be delivered to our room. It usually arrived within a few minutes of the time we requested. It was brought to our room in a basket. It contained the same things each morning – a carafe of milk, a carafe of fresh-squeezed orange juice, cereal, a few pieces of fresh fruit (sometimes not yet ripe), a couple of croissants, a bland bolillo-type roll, a few slices of processed meat (like lunchmeat), a few of slices of cheese (like sandwich slices), a few slices of bread, packets of pad butter, and packets of jam/jelly. The hotel does not offer laundry service but there is a laundromat a few blocks away. The hop-on hop-off tour buses stop just a few blocks away and you can get to the underground metro system within...
Read moreI am so glad my wife this hotel for our trip to Athens. We always seek to find 4 and 5 star hotels and Met34 was top notch. This is a very small hotel, I believe there are only 7 rooms in the entirety of it. The entrance on Petraki street is basically an alley, but there is plenty of first class food on this street, as well as a small grocery store (Bazaar). Less than one block away are both Mitropoleos and Ermou streets, and you are literally only just minutes away from Syntagma square and Minostraki square, and about 15 minutes walk from the Acropolis. The staff is very helpful and can answer any questions you may have, or make arrangements for tours or reservations of any kind. You will get breakfast brought to your room every day (which we could not believe), check out the attached picture for what arrived each and every morning.
This was our first time to Europe, and we didn't realize that there is only one air conditioning unit for the entire building (all 7 rooms) and that it's either in "heating" or "cool" mode. We visited in March, and while some days were warmer (to us) at 68F, the days in the higher 50's they perceived as very cold...so they left the heat on. The expectation is, if you're hot, just open the window (no screens). Sleeping at night at 75F+ in our room was very hard for us, and one night we literally had to sleep with the window open. It was not only hot, but our street was always busy with revelers up to 5AM. Once we explained our situation to the front desk, the remainder of the days we were able to use the air conditioning in "cooling mode".
Other than the heating/cooling issue, we could not have been more pleased with this hotel. Service was great, and the kitchenette with the microwave, fridge, coffee maker, dishwasher, and dishes came in handy more than once. It was so close to all of the things we wanted to see, it was very easy to walk for a few hours, and then walk back to the hotel for a break each time. Highly...
