Tazza is an incredible cafe/restaurant on the corner of Petraki and Pentelis street, across from the hotel. From the outside, in the street cafe you will see colorful bunches of flowers, and lamps intermingled with the tables. But the true secret is inside (as pictured) where it looks like you have gone back in time. I would make every attempt to eat inside if you can, just to see what is on display while you eat. On top of the visuals, the service and food here is top notch. For only 1,50 euros you can get a basket of bread, some spread, and fresh olives. They have a full menu of cocktails, and all of the Greek standards and a few dishes I had not seen in other places. The beef pot roast dish I got with orzo was incredibly tasteful, and the chicken Gyro my wife got was overflowing with meat and fillings! Cottage potatoes came with it, which were surprisingly crisp and fresh. Our greek salad was easily the best we had eaten anywhere in the city of Athens during our week long vacation. This place has presentation, style, and top notch food, and you might miss it on the corner of two alley streets between Ermou and Mitropoleos. Make sure you don't - seek it out! You...
Read moreFinally getting around to writing a review of the first restaurant we visited while in Athens! Tired from a lonnggg travel day from San Francisco w/ a connection in Stockholm - metro to our hotel in Athens (Elia Ermou right across from Tazza - also wonderful!) - we were super tired. Fortunately, the staff kindly served us a delicious dinner just before the kitchen closed for the night. Atmosphere, food and drink - all great. However, the best part of the evening was our waitress, Terry. She truly made our first night in Athens both memorable and a great start to our vacation and our welcome to Greece. She provided wine recommendations and gave background on the region, with humor, made us feel at ease and by the end of our meal at nearly 1 AM, still had the energy to teach us a bit of Greek including the origin of her name (from the word for Freedom). It's being welcomed like this to Greece and Athens that will stick with us long after the memories of monuments (although awesome!) being to fade together. Thanks, Terry and...
Read moreDon’t be deceived by the exterior looks. Restaurant seems very understaffed, long wait for food and no one really cares about the customers. Service is minimal at best.
Our experience was made worse by the soda cans we ordered being covered in mud (I hope it was mud and nothing worse…). When asking them about where this can came from, if it is mud or not, the waiter just redirected me to another waiter, not being helpful st all.
For a restaurant that tries to offer upscale & elegant looks, to not even offer minimal customer service and attention (wipe the cans at least…), but charge a premium for mediocre food, it is quite outrageous.
On top of this, waiters are aggressively asking for tip (shoving POS in your face with the 3 tip options, not even considering you might not want to actually tip) but do absolutely nothing to deserve it (didn’t even check our cans for the gross mud debris). Do your bare minimum job before you ask for tip.
Do not recommend other than taking a few pics from the outside if you are really...
