Best wine bar and bistro in Athens, period. We often go there, alone or with guests, especially from abroad to whom we wish to show the richness of the contemporary Greek wine scene. One can spend a wonderful evening tasting small - or large -:) quantities of different wines, paired with excellent "grandmother-with-a-twist" dishes. The staff is very friendly, most knowledgeable and takes time to explain everything. A special mention to the head sommelier / manager, Effie, she's the best. We were organising a small reception at our home for some 25 persons, from all over the world. We went to Vintage to have a small wine tasting with Effie so that we could choose the wine. We concluded on four wines, but what was unexpected and most welcome was that Effie came to our place to serve the drinks and the wines herself! Much to the delight of our guests, who were able to enjoy an impromptu wine tasting session. They really appreciated the wines - and this says a lot, seeing as they came also from France, Australia and South Africa. Effie was a darling and spared no effort in making our guests feel welcome. We relied on her knowledge and skills and were able to enjoy our small event to the max. We cannot recommend Effie and the Vintage...

I am writing this review after visiting Vintage for a second time in the past three days. The food and wine here are incredible. I have sampled flavours in combinations I would never have thought possible. The owners Panos and Iza are so lovely and passionate about what they do. There is a story behind every piece of produce and bottle of wine on offer.

Everything I have had here has been fantastic. From their excellent selection of cheeses (get the smoked goat cheese), to their cured meats and pickled goods. But I will have to give a special mention to the Lamb steak which I can say was hands down, the best lamb I have ever had. It was thick, soft, juicy with different layers of flavour. I think I am returning tomorrow to have it again (3rd visit for those who aren't counting)

Also do yourself a favour and ask for the rose water, honey and nut icecream. It is simply amazing. When paired with a desert wine, each spoon holds subtle differences in flavour making it exciting and beautiful. As an avid lover of icecream I had no idea such flavour combinations existed.

Your palate is in very good hands at Vintage and it will remain for me an unforgettable culinary experience.

Thank...

Dropped by Vintage because of all the raving reviews, and they delivered exceedingly abundant service and wine tasting! We started with the ceviche and bone marrow lamb carpaccio (the menu changes seasonally), then had four cheeses (buttery, ginger, red wine and cranberry blue, citrus in flavour) with the falafel. At the same time, I requested to try out malolactic fermented wines and they totally found not one but three bottles to perfection! Also what's really awesome about this place is that you can tell the passion the sommelier had about their wines, energetic and enthusiastically talking about it, and also they serve just about every bottle on the wine list at half glass serves and make them really affordable. We asked if they had desserts, and they do: ice cream with honey, walnut, topped with shoestring fries. Also not to be missed is the Greek jamón ibérico (creamy and oily), and the lamb prosciutto (tastes like South African biltong) to go with the cheese. Amazing sourdough, delicious marmalade. What can I say. I'd give this place 6 stats...

It is a wine bar located on Mitropoleos Street in the heart of Athens. It consists of a ground floor with table seating and a bar and a floor for private events. It is recommended to have a reservation because it is in a very tourist spot. It has a huge wine list, with Greek and imported wines and very kind staff who were willing to explain in detail everything we asked them. Wines start on average from €25 per bottle. Unfortunately, food was a very big trap. The quantities are too small and the prices are double what they should be. To justify the mismatch of prices with quantity they claim that all their products are from small Greek producers. If you like very salty cheeses, it's worth trying the "Tsemberi cave cheese from Ithaca" which we liked. The falafels were also excellent, but the portion cost €14 and contained 4 small falafels, so €3.50 per falafel! In conclusion, great wine list, great service, but very double priced food.
