We visited the restaurant at Albi in Chania yesterday, and unfortunately the overall experience was very disappointing.
From the start, the waiters seemed confused, insecure, and poorly coordinated. We were approached by three different staff members, none of whom really knew which table they were serving. Because of this, it took a very long time before we could even place our order.
The starters arrived fairly quickly, but for €2.40 we received just a tiny piece of bread, which wasn’t even enough for the appetizer – this felt quite unfair. After we finished the starter, it took about 20–25 minutes before anyone noticed our plates were empty. Shortly after they were cleared, the main dishes came out.
My dish (chicken with vegetables) arrived cold, and the chicken seemed boiled rather than properly grilled or roasted. When I asked if it was supposed to be cold, the waiter admitted it wasn’t but didn’t seem to know what to do. Only after I insisted was the dish taken back to the kitchen, and I was told they would “warm it up again.” This was disappointing, especially since the dish had a yogurt sauce. After waiting another 30 minutes, my food finally returned – but by then, my partner’s meal had gone cold.
The lack of coordination clearly showed: either dishes sat too long under the heat lamps, or the timing was completely off. The owner did check on us a couple of times and eventually offered to remove my dish from the bill. However, when we asked for the check later, the dish was still on the bill. We had to explain everything again to another waiter before it was corrected. The owner also offered us a dessert on the house, but unfortunately it wasn’t very enjoyable.
Overall, the evening was marked by long waiting times, cold food, and constant miscommunication among the staff. Even though the owner tried to make up for the issues, the experience was frustrating and disappointing. Sadly, we would not recommend...
Read moreWe passed by looking for a nice place to eat. Actually we were up to visit another place, which was sadly already fully booked. So we crossed Albi. We were quickly convinced to find something decent there, so we were open to the invitation given by the man in front of the restaurant. He especially mentioned a great chef working in this kitchen. First impression was nice. Great ambient and everything looks like someone paid attention to every detail. However, we only found out that there is close to no vegetarian option when we already sat. At first the waiters were really quick to take our orders. The drinks and food also came quick. Maybe a little too quick. We had the chicken fillet and the Albondegas. At first glance the dishes looked amazing. However, both dishes arrived at our table cold, which lets us think it was just re-heated. We couldn’t eat what we got but we were also not paid attention to by the waiters anymore, after we received our food. So after we had to sit for approx. 20 mins. we could draw a waiters attention and asked for the receipt. We also replied to his obligatory question, that we were not quite satisfied due to the food being cold. We then received a dessert to share as an excuse for the bad food. Dessert (baklava with ice cream) was good, just to mention. All in all we were very unsatisfied and will for sure not go there again.
Side note: The next day we were at the restaurant we originally wanted to visit - and we’ll absolutely see this...
Read moreWhat a wonderful restaurant we had the pleasure of dining at on our last evening in Crete.
We had walked past Albi a couple of nights prior and had a look at the menu and noticed it looked really nice. We weren’t pressured into coming in and left to browse. When we did come back, it was worth it. We did detect the restaurant has a Spanish theme to it when looking at the Menu.
We managed to get a table without a reservation and we were promptly shown to our table, once seated, a waiter came over and asked whether we’d like still or sparkling water and we opted for still. We ordered two cocktails, I had the Bee’s Knee’s whilst my partner had the Peach Sangria.
We had a browse of the menu and decided to order the Charcuterie and Cheese board with some bread, and for our main dishes I ordered the Beef Tagliata and my partner had Albondigas (Meatballs).
The charcuterie and cheese board was very nice, while the bread was warm! The main dishes arrived and were presented nicely and the portion size was perfect.
The staff here are very attentive and listened to your needs. The pricing here is more on the expensive side, however, this does make for a very nice date night / special occasion.
Thank you for a lovely meal for our...
