Visited 2 years ago with my daughter and were treated like royalty by possibly a gentleman who was owner/manager, very attentive, excellent food, service along with complimentary drinks after dessert. We returned to Minos imperial resort in Milatos again this year and decided to come back to Malia. We found Thalassa again so decided to give it a go. Staff were lovely and welcoming from the start. Drinks came quickly and were really nice- (I had red wine, frozen pina colada and water whilst my daughter had home made lemonades and water. We ordered olives, garlic pizza with cheese, shrimp saganaki and quinoa superfood salad (it’s still soooo good), followed by calamari and salmon papardelle. Negatives- a mix of olives would have been better (possibly Halkirk)- all kamalata so not very exciting for palate. Fries accompanying calamari (I’m sure menu described a different type of potato) were not good at all. Menu seems to be a lot smaller (no problem with condensing and perfecting) with a lot less seafood options which as a beach restaurant I found really disappointing as we love seafood and we’re excited to eat more shellfish. Next to open beach which is very busy, which is great but can spoil ambience (some music to drown out party goers could be a good counterbalance). Positives- Loved the shrimp & salad, pasta was cooked perfectly, drinks were delicious and watermelon with bill was a lovely touch (alcohol shots with owner would have been a good alternative too haha). Staff were great, very engaging and friendly. View was great, lovely breeze counteracted heat and my daughter was happy spying fish and crabs on rocks by us. Price was brilliant for...
Read moreVery attractive place to have a bite to eat, if you have a wallet. Come early if you're a family at 18:00 / 19:00. Effective service drops after 20:00, there are too many guests dropping in. Service people are mostly trainees. There are maybe 2 or 3 trained eyes at work above that. They won't get an eye on you unless you wave them over.
I got a seat at 18:30, and was well served, beyond that was a disaster. I finally had to stand up and call / wave for someone to notice that I wanted to see the menu for a dessert, after another 30 minutes I had to do the same trick to pay, while another couple were waiting, at least an hour for a table, and were told by the team "yeah, it will take some time", while I had been sitting, waiting to pay for over 30 minutes.
Anyhow, great place to see the sun set, you kind of can't avoid it. Otherwise, expensive, no ice in the drinks unless you tell them to. I went to old-town the other days - much better service and better, more authentic food for over half the price. View is questionable, but, well, that's the...
Read moreThe first impression was lovely, very welcoming kind man in black (we assume manager), very attentive servers when we arrived and sat at one of the tables close to the entrance. Then we moved to one of the tables by the sea. Beautiful location, table, set up, cutlery, all was top. Some things we pick up on that could be improved: there was no music at all when we were there which would have made the atmosphere better. They didnt pour our wine (we ordered 0.5l maybe thats why, but still). There was no separate cutlery for the dishes. It took a little while before they took our empty glasses away, could be because we sat away from the main kitchen by the sea and they were busy, but still. The drinks and food (I ordered carbonara) was absolutely incredible! It is a really beautiful restaurant with all the lights and tables and sea. Overall it was a lovely experience and I will be back soon in the daytime to enjoy the beauty of...
