Nestled in the heart of the city, Theorist Coffee is a hidden gem that every coffee enthusiast must visit. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a warm, inviting atmosphere that seamlessly blends modern design with cozy touches. The spacious layout, adorned with local artwork, provides the perfect backdrop for both casual meetings and quiet moments of reflection.

The coffee at Theorist is nothing short of exceptional. They source high-quality beans from sustainable farms, and you can taste the difference in every sip. I opted for their signature pour-over, and it was impeccably brewed, showcasing a delightful balance of flavors that left me wanting more. They also offer a variety of unique seasonal drinks that are worth trying—my friend raved about the lavender latte!

The staff is knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about coffee, eager to share insights about the different brews and methods. Their friendliness adds a personal touch to the experience, making you feel like part of the community rather than just another customer.

In addition to their stellar coffee, Theorist offers a small selection of pastries and light bites that perfectly complement your drink. The almond croissant I had was flaky and buttery, a delightful treat that paired wonderfully with my coffee.

Every summer when we come to Rethymno from San Francisco, Theorist is my go-to spot. For the past three summers, I’ve spent weekday afternoons here, and it’s easily one of my favorite places to go for coffee, chill & work remotely.

The space is spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed—with plenty of outlets, fresh cold water always offered by the staff, and an artsy, intellectual vibe that makes it feel both inspiring and welcoming. The aesthetic is fantastic: shelves of books, chill music, and a mix of cozy indoor seating (with much-appreciated strong AC) and a relaxed outdoor atmosphere. Upstairs has an even more laid-back feel, perfect for studying or unwinding.

The staff are wonderful—Maria, Faye, and the owners, including Giannis, make it feel like a true community.

The food and drinks are excellent. During the week, I usually go for the fresh orange juice, freddo espresso, or matcha (they have lots of plant milk options), along with my go-to dishes like the quinoa and halloumi bowls or the Alfredo pasta which is super yummy. On weekends, it’s busier with brunch crowds, but the food is worth it—and I especially love their Aperol spritz.

Overall, Theorist is a unique, welcoming spot with great energy, and it’s one of the places I look forward to most every summer...

I visited the shop for the second time today and I have to say that it is the best shop in Rethymno for breakfast, with a wide variety, as well as for coffee, drinks or food. The prices are excellent, the atmosphere of the shop is very friendly from the first moment we sat in the shop we felt like one of this excellent team.
