Andrea's Taverna is a perfect culinary Gem.
During our recent trip to Rhodes town we had the pleasure of dining at Andrea's Taverna. We were in a all inclusive hotel which stop us to go see Zamira and her lovely family -It's refreshing to meet such a great friendly family. This was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the center of the new town of the island, this charming taverna captures the essence of traditional Greek hospitality and cuisine.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles into a welcoming atmosphere.
The rustic decor, with open windows facing a traditional leather shoe and bag in a calm but not so busy street. You see people go by while enjoying a delicious meal.
The menu at Andrea's Taverna is a testament to authentic Greek cooking.
Every dish we tried was a culinary masterpiece, prepared with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.
The grilled calamari was tender and flavorful, while the kleftiko was rich and comforting, with perfectly balanced – slow-cooked to perfection, it melted in the mouth and left me craving for more.
On the second day I had the pleasure to have an exquisite fillet that was superbly easy to cut and eat.
Equally impressive was the selection of local wines and spirits.
Our knowledgeable owner guided us through the options, recommending a superb house wine perfectly good that paired beautifully with our meal.
What truly sets Andrea's Taverna apart is the the family friendly approach and exceptional service.
The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable dining experience, offering insightful suggestions and attentive service without being intrusive.
Andrea's taverna is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Rhodes town. ( I just want to keep for us) haha 😄

During this time, we noticed several tables being promptly served with a smile by the waiter, who I believe is also the owner. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive that same attention or warmth.
As a Black male, this made me feel particularly uncomfortable — like I simply wasn’t welcome there. I’m not quick to assume or bring race into things, but the contrast in how we were treated compared to other tables was impossible to ignore. Once our food finally came (which again, was excellent), we weren’t checked on once. No one asked if everything was okay, or if we were enjoying our meal, while the tables around us were given consistent attention and care.
When it came time to pay, we had to ask for the bill four times. Twice we gave the benefit of the doubt, assuming they were busy. But Andrea himself was chatting casually with other customers, clearly not overwhelmed, just disengaged from our table. We eventually had to walk over to him while he was washing plates to ask again. He could’ve easily taken our payment much earlier.
It’s such a shame. This could’ve been a glowing review because the food really was amazing, but poor hospitality has a way of leaving a bad taste, no matter how good...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. The service was nothing short of appalling. We waited over 30 minutes before anyone approached our table, and only after we asked to be served. Despite the restaurant being full, only two people — Andrea and his wife, I believe — were managing the floor, continuing to seat new guests while clearly overwhelmed. Prioritizing volume over service is not ambition, it’s greed.
Our food took over an hour to arrive, and during that entire time, not once were we checked on. No simple courtesy like “Is everything okay?” — we were completely ignored, as if we weren’t even there. Meanwhile, tables seated long after us were greeted, served drinks and food, and treated with genuine warmth and attention.
The stark contrast was impossible to ignore — and painfully obvious. The only difference? I was dining with my Black partner. The preferential treatment shown to other (white) customers was undeniable. As a white woman, I’ve never experienced discrimination firsthand, but witnessing it directed at someone I love was absolutely disgusting.
This wasn’t bad service — it was targeted exclusion, and it was rooted in racism. No one should have to...
