Staying in Rhodes for 3 days... we are on the 2nd day and have visited here 3 times already!
Visited yesterday after reading some amazing reviews and adding it to my tripadvisor journey, it did not disappoint!!
As soon as we got there a member of the public saw us looking at Fournariko and wondering if it was the same place as on TripAdvisor (we had googled Fournariko Bakery) and she said it's the best one there is and to try it - which is a great recommendation to have.
We ordered a Baklava which was massive so we asked for it to be cut in to 2 and ordered an English Breakfast Tea and Camomile Tea, it came to around 8 Euros and for the size of the Baklava it filled us up for a while! We were served by Alex who was super friendly and told us all the different flavours of cakes and Baklavas, so many choices including chocolate and Carrot & Raisins (but there are loads more!)
Today we tried the Spinach Pie (Spanakopita) after seeing a few signs around Rhodes Old Town serving Spinach Pie so we thought we would try it in our favourite place, it was absolutely gorgeous!! It has feta in as well and it isn't overpowering like a lot of Spinach food that you find in the UK, me and my Mum halved it as it was a big portion again, so tasty and so glad we tried it, we would highly recommend and might try and get it again before we leave.
We were served by another gentleman but we didn't catch his name, he gave us a couple of free cinnamon biscuits which were heavenly!! They went amazing with our English Breakfast Tea! Made me love this place even more!!
In the evening we tried the Chocolate Baklavas, even though they might look smaller than the other items they are quite filling! The chocolate tasted like Nutella and was lovely .. we are going back tomorrow to get more and for our journey home. We also tried the "Frankenstein" which Alex recommended, it was different but wasn't for us but I'm glad we tried it!
Toilets were clean and everything was just perfect... This is one of those places that in years to come I will still think of this place. Please go!!! There is seating outside and inside!
Edit: we went a couple of times on our last day to get some more chocolate Baklavas and they said they keep for 5 days! So we took some back to the UK. Already...
Read moreI rarely pen down reviews, but after our recent experience, I felt compelled. Had there been an option for zero stars, this place would have earned it. I've had the privilege of visiting numerous remarkable bakeries, and this establishment seemed poised to join the ranks. Regrettably, I find myself compelled to write this cautionary tale not only for the benefit of potential visitors but also in hopes that the management will address these glaring issues.
Upon our arrival in the serene ambiance of Rhodes Old Town, we ventured into this bakery at 7:10 am, lured by its numerous positive reviews. Despite Google indicating a 7 am opening time, the bakery appeared yet to be in operation. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, we returned 20 minutes later, only to find an underwhelming array of options, not remotely representative of the mouthwatering assortment showcased in their photos.
Despite this setback, we decided to indulge in a few pies, which, to their credit, tasted divine and were fresh from the oven. However, the cashier's demeanor was nothing short of icy; devoid of the usual pleasantries, our interaction was disappointingly impersonal. As tourists eager to bask in local hospitality, this certainly dampened our spirits.
Our second visit to the counter unraveled further inadequacies. The cashier's surprise at my request for a bag to carry multiple pies was baffling. Was it too much to expect basic courtesy?
The final straw, however, was an interaction with their barista. I, still the only customer nearly an hour post their opening, was met with complete disregard. My attempts at initiating a conversation were met with an unapologetically rude retort. Such behavior is simply indefensible.
In summary, while their pastries may tantalize your taste buds, be prepared for a service experience that's woefully lacking. Our time was marred by a series of service mishaps, from tardy opening hours to the sheer absence of congeniality. I hope for future visitors that this bakery heeds this feedback. We, for one, will not be granting them a...
Read moreGreat first experience so decided to return. That was a mistake.
We had been in the shop a while, browsing. Nobody on the âfloorâ to take our order or help and not sure of the routine. Plates were available so we decided to get something out of the case. Staff person pushed case closed and told us no and to wait in line to order.
We apologized. Then we stepped to the side to decide all of what we wanted to order. That same person then asked multiple times what we wanted. When I said we were still discussing it, they said, âNext time you come back, be more polite.â
I told them we were being polite and that we didnât understand their system because plates are out and available. At that point, we walked out empty-handed. In our five days in Rhodes, we did not return to this bakery.
Being at the height of tourist season, I am sure we were not the first to make this mistake. I understand we are travelers in this personâs country, but the need for patience and kindness must come from both sides. (Note: This was a different staff person than our first visit; the first person was friendly and extremely helpful.)
Fortunately, in our month of traveling around Greece, we have been more than welcomed and treated with kindness...
