Starting with the positives, the outdoor seating area is very beautiful and promising for a nice and peaceful meal. The waitresses were also smiley and friendly and the service was fast. The most tasty dish we tried was the grilled mushrooms (we are talking about a seafood restaurant though...).
On the negative side, the fries tasted bad and we suspect it might have been due to the oil that was used when cooked. The fried vegetables had absorbed too much oil too. The seafood we tried (saganaki shrimps, octopus) was ok, but not to die for, considering the prices you have to pay for it. Furthermore, although the owner is enthusiastic and warm with customers, we felt he was constantly walking above our heads, making it uncomfortable for us to even have a quiet discussion between us as we had the feeling that we were being heard during our entire meal there (although it might have not been the case). Another thing is that Greece is famous for its hospitality and, although it's not mandatory, it's widely known that some small treat/fruit/drink arrives with the bill even at the smallest restaurant in the smallest village. Unfortunately, there was nothing like that for us at Nireas, although we heard the owner asking one of the waitresses to treat some mastiha shots to the table next to us, the people of which he seemed to know personally. This didn't seem great, as we would think all customers are treated equally... Last but not least, we're using a bank card from a foreign bank that's not charging us extra charges when paying in other currencies, but we had to unexpectedly deal with a relatively high surcharge when we paid by card, the reason of which remains...
Read moreWe were very disappointed. The area is very charming. The restaurant itself is in a great location, away from the tourist crowds, with a beautiful garden that looks particularly good at night due to the atmospheric lights. We stumbled upon the restaurant next door—Pizanias—by accident while wandering through the atmospheric streets of old Rhodes in the afternoon. We were so pleased that we decided to return the next evening. Unfortunately, we hadn't reserved a table in advance. So we decided to try our luck with the neighbor—Nireas. We were surprised by the portion sizes of the dishes—we have been in Rhodes for a week and have not encountered such small portions yet. This wouldn't have bothered us at all if it was accompanied by excellent quality food. Unfortunately, the grilled octopus was definitely overcooked, rubbery, and difficult to chew and cut. The grilled vegetables for two and the Greek salad were fine, although we have had better in many places on the island. When we asked the waitress for the bill, she said we could go and pay there at the bar. When I asked if they don't bring bills to guests at their tables in this restaurant, she replied that they usually do, but they are very busy now. If you want to spend a pleasant evening with great food, make a reservation with the neighbors- at Pizanias. They have a great Greek salad and excellent seafood pasta prepared with due respect and not overcooked. Don't waste your time and...
Read moreWhat a gem of a place. We had lunch here and all four of us were blown away. The seafood was super fresh, the outdoor dining under the covered greenery w white table cloths was a dream and service was amazing. The dishes were recommended & were absolutely delicious. She was honest to let us know which fish was farmed or from the ocean & we were impressed with her multitasking skills, all done with a friendly and courteous smile. We ordered : sea bass by the kilo(for 4 of us around 45 euros) it was lightly seasoned and served w extra olive oil and lemons on the side
uni - fresh and sweet. Served w a liquidy base which kinda threw me off. not sure what it was Seafood pasta- pasta was a bit too firm but surprisingly addictive. The mussels were incredibly delish! No off putting smell in the mussels just fresh & clean.
Octopus- yum! They dry it before grilling, i guess that makes a difference.
Crabcakes- not plumped up with breading but rather filled with actual crab meat!
Greek salad - refreshing
We’re going back to have our last meal before departing, its so good.
Update: we brought our 6 family members back the next day to hv our last meal in Rhodes in Nireas. We met the owner who is the most charming gentleman. Nireas is a popular place and the employees work hard so expect longer wait times for your meal if they’re busy. It didn’t bother us as we enjoyed the beautiful outdoors in this...
