At first, the restaurant seemed promising. The atmosphere was nice, and what we assumed was the owner was friendly and even apologized for forgetting our water. No big deal—things happen.
Then, things got weird. Before our food arrived, we suddenly heard yelling. It was the owner, full-on shouting at another table of customers. After she called them to the kitchen and yelled “get out of my restaurant trough the back”, they paid and left. The mood in the restaurant shifted. We started noticing other diners poking at their food, making faces, like they weren’t quite sure what they were dealing with. Others also did not eat the food and started leaving.
By the time our food came, our appetites had already taken a hit. The mixed grill looked alright, but the lamb was a questionable shade of gray and had a slimy white texture on it.
We took a few hesitant bites, but after reading some reviews, we decided to ask for a to-go bag. We were so uncomfortable, we didn’t dare to send the food back. Unfortunately, even playing it safe didn’t save us—we both ended up with food poisoning.
Even if we hadn’t gotten sick, the whole experience was off, and the owner could definitely use some lessons in...
Read moreWalked into Old Town looking for a gyros and a cheeky pint for lunch. Every place does the usual as you look at the menu, hound you and proclaim they serve the best food... better than anywhere else. Whilst looking at the menu here, the lady at the door asked if there was anything we were looking for in particular. Not pushy when we said we were looking for a light gyros pita as we weren't prepared for a full sit down meal but unfortunately the gyros on the menu was too pricey (its a full plates worth). She asked the chef whether they could do a lighter gyros and it was music to our ears when they said they could. Ended up getting one chicken and one pork gyros with a lovely Retsina wine. Great atmosphere and good service. Well worth a visit for a pit stop before heading into the...
Read moreWhile the place looks calm and friendly, the food and service is not great. We went there, ordered gemista (veggies stuffed with meat and rice) and souvlaki, with the wine of the house. Lets just not even talk about the latter, the red one was very low quality. Now, the souvlaki was exactly 5 small pieces of meat with a tiny bowl of tzatziki and a bunch of rice, fries and pita, all seemed straight out of tesco. Worse, the gemista had 0 meat in it. So much so, that we told the waiter that this is the case. Here is the catch: instead of saying sorry, the waiter nodded, and told us that the menu is old, and this is what it is. The owner meanwhile watched the whole scene and couldn't care less. For the usual Rhodes pricing and so many better options, you should...
