Aaaah Greece. What is not to love? At the end of the day we all come here for the same reasons - the perfect blue skies, the endless sunshine, the incredibly hospitable & effortlessly friendly people...but let's be honest: at a certain point, every taverna menu looks the same...which is why Romios is such a hidden gem. Move past the generic moussaka/stifado/kleftiko etc menus and discover truly Rhodian cuisine with history, love & a difference. I would define ourselves as "food travellers" - it is rare we visit a city without a clear plan of where we will eat & drink before we go (we plan our sightseeing around where we eat, not the other way around!) which is why discovering a place like this really elevates our otherwise planned experience. What started as an impromptu stop-over for some light mezze (our 3rd meal of the evening lol) turned into a multi-hour love affair with the interesting, specifically Rhodian variants of traditional Greek plates. Despite our confidence in certain dish & flavour profiles, we were so pleasantly & unexpectedly surprised by every dish, this restaurant really sets itself apart from most other "tavernas" in the Old Town...indeed the whole island. The greatest surprise was the complimentary Trahana soup starter ("trahanasoupa") which is perhaps the most comforting, delicious soup I can remember having...it's like the Greek answer to Jewish Chicken soup, Scotch Broth or Russian/Polish Borscht - with none of the same ingredients, but with all the wholesome soul cleansing properties of Grandma's soup (in any language/culture). I will literally fly back here next year just to have that again...and it was free/never even part of our original order. Wow. Which is not to diminish anything else we had - each was unique in its own way - but the soup was toe-curlingly good. Like Angels crying on your tongue ☺️ Much love for the food, friendly waiters & amazing...

I booked this last minute as a birthday dinner for my girlfriend and they made the experience brilliant with a surprise desert at the end which was a great touch and very much appreciated!
Now that the service has been recognised and appreciated - let me get on to the food!
Simply one word - WOW!
The garlic bread and the flat bread for starters was just sublime especially the flat bread - I’ve never had flat bread like that in England. It was crispy but not dry (I wish I could learn how to make it ha) so Devine.
Then we had sparkling white wine which was very nice - didn’t taste cheap or harsh was nice on the pallet.
I opted for appetisers while she opted for a main which was salmon and spinach dish which was delicious - fish succulent spinach soft and the sauce it was in 😍.
As for my starters I opted for grilled octopus, calamari and recommended by costa - sardines!!! Honestly they were all scrumptious but my favourite was the sardines!! I am used to sardines being in a tin in England so I never eat so I was a bit nervous but honestly best decision I did was to take costa recommendation - simply Devine.
I will be going back to this restaurant on our one week holiday - this restaurant just had everything and for me food being great along with outstanding service = a...
Read moreBeen in Rhodes for a week and only visited places with great reviews. We were looking forward to visit this restaurant but left very disappointed. Once sitted we waited at least 15 min till we were served. We order some vine and bottle of water which we did not get glasses for. We had to ask for them. When starters came out we missed one, for which we had to ask again. By this time our wine glasses were empty and there was nobody there to ask if we would like more. Once starters were finished we waited for quite a while and table was not emptied at all. So we go served one main dish while table is not even cleared. So the waiter cleared table when he brought one main dish, but forgot the cutlery. We had to ask for it after waiting for 10 min, by this time the dish was cold already.
So we decided to leave. Asked for the bill and this is when the owner (lady owner who is chef) came to ask what is the issue. She was explained by her daughter (service manager) that issue was with the food. The food was great, and the disappointing thing is that she is supported by rubbish service. The approach when we pointed out the issues was wrong and the restaurant needs to look after service and clients needs more. I will not return to this place and would not recommend the restaurant to any of people I know they are visiting Rhodes.
Go to MamaSofia restaurant which is...
