This restaurant is a "must go" tip for all visitors to Rhodes Town❣️ A new experience every time.
We have been coming to Rhodes for many years, but we only discovered this small restaurant in an inconspicuous passageway during our first longer stay in Rhodes Town. We've been there several times since then.
Three sisters, who were born on Corfu, founded this "2D restaurant" a few years ago and have transformed the traditional recipes of their mámmi (mother/grandmother) into true "soul food"! It is still a family restaurant, as the daughters also work in this project close to their hearts.
It is no coincidence that the restaurant's motto is "You come as a guest and go as part of the family" ❣️
Together with an artist, the family history was artistically realised in simple black lines throughout the restaurant and in the outdoor area. It's a bit like sitting in the middle of a large graphic novel! You can discover something new every time you visit. With absolute attention to detail, which also applies to the cuisine!
Simple but great tasting dishes that are all Corfu specialities. One of the daughters, Chrysavgi, explained the "secret ingredient" to us. When she started cooking, it never tasted like her grandmother's because she always had to cook under time pressure. She then rang her grandmother and asked for the special ingredient. She always got the same answer: "It is Love that is missing! Take your time and give the ingredients the respect they deserve. Then it will succeed!" It took a while for her to understand, but the women in this restaurant have all completely internalised this mantra!
The result is a small but exquisite menu with starters and main courses that will delight you without exception. Whether it's the lamb dishes, casseroles, stews or other dishes. You should simply let the charming experts explain the dishes to you and then choose according to your own preferences. Nothing can go wrong.
To finish, there is homemade candied fruit as a small greeting from the kitchen. These soft candied grapes, kumquats and apricots are a poem and the next explosion of flavour. Recently, they have even launched a delicious, dry white wine (house wine) in their own bottling. How could it be otherwise - it is a reminiscence of the grandfather, who was a winegrower.
Conclusion: Anyone who visits Rhodes Town and doesn't visit "tis Mámmis sou" has definitely...
Read moreWe were very excited to visit Tis Màmmis Sou 2D after discovering they had Vegan options from a Vegan blog, because of their aesthetic, and to support local Greek business.
They did have a few Vegan options but beware they are not trained in allergies or kindness. I told our waitress about my allergies to peppers (capsicum) and the waitress went to the kitchen only to confirm my meal would be pepper free.
After a long wait, the food came and we immediately identified red pepper flakes all over the meal. When we pointed this out we spoke to her older sister (also a waitress at the establishment) who handled it in shocking fashion. Instead of apologizing she suggested I eat the pita and chips and donate the rest of the meal to my boyfriend. The original waitress explained that she didn’t realize I was allergic but only thought I was intolerant to peppers. As if this is better?
The older sister then attempted to find another meal for me but said shocking statements such as “well because it’s Vegan we have to add peppers to make it taste better” along with other insulting comments.
When the bill came I was surprised to find out they still expected me to pay for both meals. I found this laughable and insisted she remove my meal with allergens, at which point she suggested she needed to charge me for the "half" of the meal I ate, despite only eating the hummus & pita. (Not touching the Souvlaki & chips.)
After finally, removing the entire dish from the bill she continued to speak about, “traditional Greek” dishes needing the peppers especially when made Vegan, entirely missing the point of my health and safety while insulting Vegan food as tasteless without them.
At the end of the exchange, she did offer for us to call in advance so the kitchen could specialize a meal for us next time. I was appreciative of this, but was not reassured that my health and safety was cared for, their mistake was acknowledged, nor trusting them moving forward. My partner enjoyed his food, but the service was...
Read moreSo let us start with my review. We searched Google for a 5 star 🌟 restaurant due to the many tourist restaurants that exist all around the world with low food quality. So we decided to go to Tis Mammis for our dinner. It is located in a side street in the Rhodos new town. It was a simple restaurant. First the bigger sister of the family came and welcomed us and explained about some of the dishes they had but she also said that her little sister knows more and will come in few minutes. She was very kind and lovely. A couple of minutes later her little sister came and explained us about the dishes and the favorites. She can speak fluently English and we enjoyed the conversation a lot. She is a very warm hearted person and unbelievably nice. The food was amazing. I had the beef steak 🥩 which was so delicious and tender that I had a wow effect. Later we saw the mom on her way home and we had the pleasure to thank her in person for the lovely food. She was very kind and communicate as well. We also saw the father and the aunt who was in the kitchen. It was a pleasant and very enjoyable dinner thanks to the lovely family who run the business or the restaurant. The little sister told us the story of the family and..... the food was amazing and the prices are very good 😊. In sum, I definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody who visits Rhodes and wants to have a good dinner while being served by the most lovely family and people. So a big...
