Let me start by saying that this place fully exceeded our expectations. We have been in Thessaloniki for a few days and have had traditional Greek tavern style dishes. When we first sat down at this place we thought the menu had similar items which would be good but also to be expected. We thought wrong. The dishes prepared by Mezen were incredible and well exceeded expectations. Mezen brings a modern twist on traditional dishes and brought them to a new level in terms of flavour combination and superb execution. Definitely order your drinks with meze (chef’s selection). We had fried little shrimp, which were amazing - crunchy, flavorful, and fresh. This pickled mackerel was very acidic and dressed in dill, which is tasty and refreshing. The whipped fish dip was super fluffy and was one of my favorites. The bread came with the dishes are almost like croutons where they are chunks of bread grilled with paprika and garlic, amazing. Because this is a small plate restaurant, we ordered multiple rounds of dishes and tried a ton of variety of dishes. We loved everything we got. Some of our favorites included caul fat wrapped meatballs, green beans with feta, cured tuna, squid carbonara, squid stuffed lamb (order first as it takes 40 minutes to prepare). They also have an interesting wine list with a lot of organic options. We got a bottle of “blush”, and two bottles of white. They paired perfectly with the food. The service was great and atmosphere is nice. They were really busy even on a Monday night! Overall definitely go here if you want small plates and try a bunch of different and...
Read moreThe restaurant is a cozy Greek taverna with a contemporary twist that combines the rich flavors of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, with a strong dose of traditional hospitality.
The decor is a mix of rustic and modern elements, with comfortable seating. It's probably even more inviting at nighttime with the lighting and all, but I'm just guessing. A perfect choice for a relaxed meal with friends over some ouzo (that's what we did).
The menu features a variety of mezes (small plates) perfect for sharing. Each dish was made with fresh ingredients. We took the meatballs, the fried fish, fried calamari, the vinegar-marinated octopus (diced in small nuggets, perfect for nibbling with ouzo), white taramosalata and some marinated olives. We had an ouzo feast.
The service was top-notch. The staff were friendly and attentive, eager to make excellent recommendations on the menu. The pace of dishes arriving to the table was well-timed, allowing us to savor each dish and not feel rushed as it sometimes happens.
The prices were reasonable, especially compared to the generous portions. Considering the quality of the food, the level of service, and the overall dining experience, the place is an excellent value for money.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a true taste of Greece in the heart of...
Read moreAmazing, tucked away small plates restaurant...we turned up at about 4pm and had to wait about 45 minutes to get a table (outside though with no heater...so was a little too chilly). The whole menu looked amazing and we ordered several dishes to try - we especially enjoyed the house made cured fish of the day, the baked mackeral fillet, the grilled bread, seabass tartare, the ceviche, flying squid carbonara with pancetta (note this is not a pasta dish), and the house smoked salt pork belly on the grill. Despite being super busy with only 3 people serving, this is well organised, well oiled operation and well worth the wait. There wasn't anything suitable on the menu for kids though so that was a shame - I suggest the restaurant to also provide some chips or simple bread to at least provide something temporary for kids. At 6pm it happened to be quieter, so this may be a better time to visit. Highly recommended! Would...
